In an incident where the city of Delhi emulated Mumbai, a video of car getting swallowed by sinkhole has gone viral. While one may get shocked had a similar incident not happen in the financial hub of the country Mumbai earlier last month. The Mumbai incident was reported from Ghatkopar and the car was swallowed by a parking area which had caved in.
The Delhi – Mumbai rivalry is known by most Indian citizens. Mumbaikars and Delhiites lock horns on various subjects such as their IPL franchises, the standard of living in both the cities, the opportunities both the cities have. While a friendly rivalry is healthy when it comes to cities growing, sometimes the two cities unintentionally emulate each other in disastrous situations.
The Car was of Traffic Cop
In one such incident, incessant rains in the national capital led to a sinkhole opening in the Dwarka’s Sector 18. This led to the road collapsing and shockingly, a car which was stuck on the road, was also swallowed by the sinkhole. The car was later pulled out with a crane and fortunately, no injuries have been reported. A similar incident had happened in Mumbai recently and coincidently, the cars in both the incident were of Hyundai.
“Cop was rescued, nobody got injured”
The incident happened at Dwarka’s Atulya Chowk at around 5 PM. A police official was quoted by news platforms saying-
“A portion of a road caved in Dwarka’s Sector 18 due to heavy rains in the national capital and a traffic police constable’s car got stuck there on Monday evening. He was safely rescued from there and nobody got injured during the incident.”

Hydro crane Called, Video and Images Go Viral
Meanwhile, as the car was seen being swallowed up by the sinkhole, a hydro crane was called which was used to pull the car out. And thanks to people being connected with each other on social media, videos and images that were taken started making the rounds on the internet.
ANI reported the news on Twitter and said, “A car got stuck after a road caved in Dwarka’s Sector 18 due to incessant rain in the National Capital. It was later pulled out with the help of a crane. No injuries reported: Delhi Police.”

After his car was sacrificed to the Rain Gods, the driver of the car – Ashwini – said that while coming back from his friend’s office, the road collapsed and his car immediately got stuck. As the crane lifted the car out of the sinkhole, several people gathered around and took the pictures and videos. In one such video, the white coloured Hyundai’s I20 can be seen being pulled out. The hood of the car, which took the most damage, can be seen leaking muddled water.

Car Sunk in Well in Mumbai
Earlier in June, a parked car in Ghatkopar, Mumbai fell into a sealed well. The car was parked on a sealed well which was located in a Ghatkopar housing society. The incident, much akin to the Delhi incident, was recorded and became viral. The video footage shows the parking area completely caving in and as a consequence, swallowing the Hyundai’s Venue.
