In a horrific development, a Delhi-based man learning to drive, lost control of his SUV and ended up running over three children on footpath. The incident was caught on CCTV, video of which is making rounds of social media with netizens expressing their anger in the comments. Fortunately, two children, aged 4 and 10, were reported to be out of danger, while one 6-year-old child is being treated for injuries.

The horrific incident was reported from Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh area and occurred near the Lilawati school where the children were playing around and catching the sun on the footpath. A CCTV footage of the incident shows a car crashing into the footpath, striking the children and then coming to halt. Some bystanders rush to help the children.

Meanwhile, other pedestrians are seen trying to catch the driver and then roughing them up. Allegedly, two occupants in the car tried to flee, and were locked in a room, following which they were handed over to the cops.

The accused in the matter was identified as Gajender Singh, a resident of Pratap Nagar. As per an NDTV report, Gajender was learning to drive his Brezza when he lost control over the car. Reportedly, the car belongs to Gajender’s friend’s brother-in-law, who is also expected to have action taken against him.

The Facts of the Matter

As per data released by the Delhi Police, Delhi reported a 3.6% increase in total number of fatal crashes in 2021 against 2020 while 13% increase was reported in total crashes. 2021 saw 4,720 total road crashes, killing 1,239 persons and injuring 4,273 persons. Another key fact revealed in the data showed that pedestrians on footpath and roads remained the most vulnerable to such accidents.

In yet another such incident reported from the national capital, three children were run over by a car, after the driver, who was learning how to drive, lost his control over the vehicle. The incident was reported from Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh area and was caught on CCTV camera.

What Does the Video Show?

Video of the incident shows a White coloured out of control speeding Brezza leaving the road and entering the footpath, running over children, who were on the footpath. Some bystanders, who were on the other side of the road, rush to help the children while another group of bystanders run towards the car driver. The driver is seen exiting the vehicle and trying to make a run for it, when the group of bystanders nab him and rough him up. Another occupant of the car is also seen being made to leave the car.

Driver Tried to Flee

According to reports, the accused in the matter, Gajender, is a Pratap Nagar resident, and works as a loan recovery agent. After running over the children, Gajender tried to fled the scene and was locked in a room by locals, and then was given to the cops.

Driver was Learning How to Drive

Gajender doesn’t have a driver’s license, and was learning to drive the car with the help of his friend Karan. The car belongs to Karan’s brother-in-law, who also stands to be booked by the cops.

Meanwhile, the arrested accused has been charged under multiple sections of IPC, and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act will also be added to the FIR.
