In a major security update, the Delhi police arrested 6 terrorists that were trained by Pakistan’s ISI. Further, the police claimed that the terrorists were targeting festivals across India. After the arrest, the police seized incriminating evidences such as hand grenades, improvised explosive devices (IED), RDX and a pistol.

The arrest comes just a few months after a special cell of the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested terrorists linked with terror outfit Al-Qaeda. The police claimed that the 2 accused were planning for terror activities on the upcoming Independence Day.

Barring attacks on military bases, these attempts have been successful by and large. Recently, the police force of the national capital arrested 6 terrorists that were planning to target festivals.

The Facts of the Matter

On September 14, the special cell of the Delhi Police arrested as many as 6 terrorists that were planning to carry out attacks across India. Further, the police also claims that 2 of the 6 terrorists were trained by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s intelligence organization.

According to reports, the agency was working on a plan by Dawood Ibrahim’s brother to carry out attacks in India during the festival season.

Reportedly, the Delhi Police special cell acted on intelligence and conducted raids across states. While one suspect was arrested from Rajasthan’s Kota, 2 others were arrested in Delhi and 3 remaining were arrested from Uttar Pradesh.

Who Are the Arrested Persons?

The arrested terrorists have bee identified as Zeeshan (28), Mohammad Abu (23), Jaan Mohammad (47), Moolchand (47), Osama (22), Mohammad Amir (31). Zeeshan was arrested from Prayagraj, Abu from Bahraich, Jaan Mohammad from Mumbai, Moolchand from Raebareli, Osama from Delhi, and Mohammad Amir from Lucknow.

The Police press release was quoted across reports saying, “Considering the gravity of the situation and stakes involved, a multi-pronged operation was launched and several teams were stationed at Mumbai, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Rae-Bareilly, and Pratapgarh, simultaneously.”

What Did the Delhi Police Say?

The release also added, “Special Cell of Delhi police had received a reliable input from a central agency that a Pakistan-abetted and sponsored group of entities is planning to execute serial IED blasts in India. For this, the group has got multiple IEDs arranged from sources across the border and are at an advanced stage of preparation.

India Receives Tip Off, Accused Spills Beans

Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Neeraj Thakur spoke to the media after the arrest. According to Mr. Thakur, the accused were given the job to execute multiple aspects of the plan. He claimed that a police team received tip-off from the intelligence agencies that a Pakistan sponsored terrorist group was planning to execute multiple blasts across India.

He further shared that the group of accused had received IED from multiple sources from all over the border. After the arrest, the accused spilled the beans and said how they had gotten IEDs, pistols, and other arms and ammunitions from a sleeper cell operative.

The Bangladesh Connection

Neeraj Thakur also added that Osama, who was apprehended from Delhi, had flown from Lucknow to Muscat earlier in April this year. There, he joined Zeeshan and a group of 15-16 men that spoke Bangla. The police is suspecting that this group was from Bangladesh.

He further shared that these group of men later took to Pakistan where they were hosted in a farmhouse in Thatta. Over there, they received training by 3 Pakistani citizens – allegedly from the Pakistan army.

These citizens trained the terrorists in how to make bombs, handle IEDs, using firearms such as AK-47 among other things.
