In a harrowing development, a Dewas municipal corporation employee tied a dog and hit it with a stick mercilessly to death. Maneka Gandhi, an animal right activist, stepped in and took heed of the situation. Her organization People for Animals reached out to the CMO and sought a report on the ordeal. The incident happened at Dewas district’s Khategaon region, the video of which has gone viral inciting a lot of outrage.

This is the second incident involving animal abuse coming from Madhya Pradesh in a month. Earlier in September, 5 street dogs were the victims of acid attack. They were taken to the veterinary facility where they eventually died.

In India, National Crime Records Bureau serves as an agency responsible towards registering and analyzing crime related data in India. However, the agency only records data about crimes inflicted towards and by humans. For animals, there is no Centre operated body. Due to this, there’s no official data on crimes against animals. No data leads to people not having any accountability, and thus, crimes against animal is at its all-time high.

Recently, a video of a dog being hit mercilessly by stick is making the rounds on the internet.

The Facts of the Matter

Municipality personnel are expected to work for the betterment of people. But what happens when the same people go on a chaotic fit of rage and projects the same on a mute animal.

In Dewas, Madhya Pradesh some members of the municipality personnel are coming under the flak after a video of them attacking a dog has gone viral. The officers tied the dog and hit it mercilessly to the point that it took its final breath.

CMO Receives Flak, Dog Beater Was Sweeper

After the video went viral on social media platforms, the CMO received a flak on not managing his personnel well. The person who attacked the street dog was allegedly a sweeper, who worked on daily wage.

Maneka Gandhi Approaches CMO, Issues Probe

It should be noted that prominent animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi also condemned the act. Her organization People for Animals took heed of the situation and approached the CMO in the matter. A Dainik Bhaskar report also cited sources that Maneka Gandhi herself took to CMO and issued a probe in the matter.

Earlier, a complaint was raised by NGO owner Rupa Patwardhan. The NGO worker manages the animal rights NGO called Simba Gopal Animal Welfare Society. According to Patwardhan, the dog was attacked on October 3 at the Azad Marg, Trimurti Colony.

Accused Suspended with Immediate Effect

Upon further investigation, he found that it was Khategaon Municipal Council employees who had tied the dog with a rope and beat it with stick till it died. CMO Anil Joshi later revealed that the two persons were suspended with immediate effect.

Further, the matter has been directed towards the Khategaon police SHO (station house officer). The CMO has asked the SHO to take necessary action against whoever is involved in the matter.

Earlier in September, 5 street dogs were attacked by unidentified men by acid. Reportedly, the barbarians poured acid on the mouths of the street dogs. The poor animals could do nothing much than howling in pain and then eventually breathing their last.
