For the unversed, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by AI research company OpenAI. Since its release back in November 2022, the tool has been part of headlines for its detailed and elaborate responses about myriad of topics such as history, science, literature and more. Recently, the company’s CTO Mira Murati was quoted saying, “Artificial intelligence (AI) can be misused, or it can be used by bad actors. So then, there are questions about how you govern the use of this technology globally.”

Who is Mira Murati?
Currently the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of OpenAI, Mira was born in 1988 in San Francisco to Indian-origin parents. She completed her Bachelors of Engineering from the prestigious Dartmouth University’s Thayer School of Engineering. After graduating, she went on to serve large conglomerates including Goldman Sachs (2011), Zodiac Aerospace (2012-2013), Tesla (2013-16), and Leap Motion (2016-18).
In 2018, Mira went on to join OpenAI and managed the profile of Senior VP of Research, Product & Partnerships. Soon enough, in May 2022, she became the CTO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.

Mira’s Warning About AI and its Consequences
In an interview with Time Magazine, Mira gave her two cents on AI and its consequences on the real world. “[AI] can be misused, or it can be used by bad actors. So, then there are questions about how you govern the use of this technology globally. How do you govern the use of AI in a way that’s aligned with human values?”, she was quoted saying.

Mira Called ChatGPT her Team’s ‘Child’
In the same interview, Mira also mentioned how she and her team were skeptical about releasing ChatGPT. Further, she also said that she and her team were not expecting the level of excitement and buzz ChatGPT found itself to be a part of.
“We weren’t anticipating this level of excitement from putting our child in the world. We, in fact, even had some trepidation about putting it out there. I’m curious to see the areas where it’ll start generating utility for people and not just novelty and pure curiosity,” she said, in the same Time interview.
