A concerning development in Bollywood and entertainment industry has emerged where Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar was shifted to ICU while Naseeruddin Shah too was hospitalized with Pneumonia. The news comes on a day when Mandira Bedi’s husband Raj Kaushal died due to a cardiac arrest at 49.

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar was rushed to the Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital due to breathlessness issue. According to the reports, Mr. Kumar is in a stable condition and is currently under observation at the hospital’s non COVID-19 ICU. For the unversed, this is the second time the Mughal-E-Azam actor has been taken to the hospital in a month.

An Indian Express report quoted a source familiar with the matter saying-

“Dilip Kumar was brought to the hospital yesterday, he had the same complaints that he had last time. So his family probably thought it was best to bring him to the hospital, considering his age and also because he was previously admitted with the same complaint.”

The source further said that the doctors will be monitoring him and will take a call on his further course on treatment. “There is nothing to worry”, claimed the source.

Dilip Kumar’s Prior Hospitalization

Earlier in June, Mr. Kumar was hospitalized with the similar breathlessness issue. He was admitted to the same hospital he is currently taking a treatment at – Hinduja Hospital. On June 6, Mr. Kumar complained of breathlessness and was taken to the hospital. After 5 days, he was discharged on June 11.

From his personal Twitter handle, his team had posted a tweet saying, “Dilip Sahab has been admitted to non-Covid PD Hinduja Hospital Khar for routine tests and investigations. He’s had episodes of breathlessness. A team of healthcare workers led by Dr. Nitin Gokhale is attending to him. Please keep Sahab in your prayers and please stay safe.”

While the exact course of treatment was not revealed, reports claimed that the veteran Bollywood actor was put on oxygen support and a pleural aspiration procedure was performed on him. Pleural Aspiration is a medical procedure where a small needle is passed inside a chest wall so as to remove fluid or air from the space between one’s lung and their chest wall.

The Legacy of Dilip Kumar

Mohammed Yusuf Khan aka Dilip Kumar is currently 98 years old and is credited as one of the first method actors to have graced the big screens of the Indian cinema. In a glorious career that spanned for 5 decades, Mr. Kumar worked in over 65 films. Mr. Kumar to this date holds the record for most Filmfare Best Actor wins and has been awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award by the Indian government in 2015.

Naseeruddin Shah Admitted to Mumbai Hospital due to Pneumonia

Meanwhile, theatre maverick and veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah too was admitted to a Mumbai based hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia. The 70-year-old actor’s wife Ratna Shah, who’s also a fellow theatre and Bollywood actress spoke to Press Trust of India and said, “Yes (he has a) small patch and all under control.”

The 64-year-old actress also added that her husband is ‘responding well to the treatment’ and in all likelihood will be ‘discharged soon’.
