In the ongoing last leg of IPL 2021, Dinesh Karthik breached IPL code of conduct where his frustration left his stumps rattled. The incident happened during the qualifier 2 of IPL 2021 played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.

The game was truly a high-stakes one with the team who would win, would survive to see another day. In the game, KKR’s Dinesh Karthik was bamboozled by Kagiso Rabada. Frustrated on his dismissal, Karthik poured his anger on the stumps, and hence, is reprimanded by the IPL committee.

Details

For centuries, cricket has been called the gentleman’s sport. Owing to the fact that cricket came from England’s elite class, the game for its initial years remained gentlemanly. However, as the game got popular, more and more teams joined in and now, everything short of a physical brawl occurs on the field. Players at times indulge into verbal spats, fans at times create ruckus, and the code of conduct is tossed away.

Recently Indian player Dinesh Karthik was redemanded for breaching the code of conduct.

The Facts of the Matter

Experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was reprimanded by the IPL committee for breaching the code of conduct on October 13 during his match against Delhi Capital. The usually calm and composed 36-year-old got frustrated after he was bowled out on a duck.

It so happened that batting second, KKR was chasing a total of 136. At 125/3, the team was looking at the comfortable victory. However, it all changed when Kasigo Rabada bowled Dinesh Karthik out on a duck. Being so close to the victory and not scoring a single run must have clearly gotten to Karthik who poured his frustration on the stumps.

This action did not please the match officials who issued a statement after the match which read, “Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
