A man in a PPE kit threw a dead body into Rapti River in Uttar Pradesh. The body was of a COVID-19 positive patient who died on 28th May. The entire incident was recorded on camera.
Balrampur’s Case in detail
The video, which has been circulated multiple times on social media, depicts two men throwing a body into the river in Kotwali area of Balrampur. One of them is seen wearing a PPE kit. The police have verified the victim as Premnath, a resident of Shohratgadh Siddharthnagar.

The man was admitted to a hospital on 25th May after he tested positive for COVID-19, according to the chief medical officer (CMO), Balrampur, Premnath. On May 28, he passed away and his body was handed to his family members as per the government’s COVID-19 protocols.
Balrampur CMO said as per the COVID-19 protocol, Premnath’s body was handed over to his relatives for the final cremation. But, he said, Premnath’s relatives threw his body into the river. The police have book a case and the investigation is under process. Here’s a video where the officials are stating about the progress of the case.
The incident sparks the outrage in the citizens because it’s been barely two weeks after several bodies were seen floating in rivers in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and also hundreds of bodies were found buried in sand in Unnao district.

Brief about the Chausa village case
11th May On social media, several videos of suspected COVID-19 victims’ dead bodies floating at the Mahadev ghat of the Ganga River at Chausa village in Bihar had gone viral. These videos have had sparked anger and have triggered sentiments in people.
Chausa is about 10 kilometres away from the HQ of the border district of Buxar, joining by eastern Uttar Pradesh. The villagers first spotted several bodies floating on the bank of the river and immediately informed local authorities.
After this incident was reported it was claimed that the cremation ground asked for a lot of money and in most of the cases the dead bodies were never handed to the family members, which also could’ve been a reason for people to dispose of the dead bodies in the flowing river.
Brief about the Unnao district case
On 13th May, over 100 bodies were found buried in sand in Unnao district. Circulation of footage of dead bodies wrapped in cloth buried in sand, made headlines of social media causing panic among the netizens and locals.
It should be noted that Unnao was not the only region where a discovery as grim as this was made. At the nearby Hajipur area near Rautpur Ganga Ghat, as many as 50 dead bodies were discovered buried in the sand.
