On June 11, top radiologist and wife of prominent journalist Vinod Dua – Dr. Padmavati Dua or more commonly known, ‘Chinna’ Dua– died at 61 due to COVID-19. She and her husband Vinod were both admitted to a Gurgaon based hospital after contracting the deadly COVID-19 virus. Chinna is survived by journalist Vinod Dua, and daughters Mallika and Bakul Dua. While Mallika is a prominent stand-up comedian, Bakul works as a clinical psychologist.

After fighting a long and hard battle with COVID-19, top radiologist Dr. Padmavati Chinna succumbed to the disease. She was admitted to a Gurgaon based hospital since May 14 along with her husband. While her husband Vinod was discharged recently after showing recovery signs, Chinna was not able to survive.

Hospitalization & Fight with the virus

With a following of over 40 thousand people, Chinna often took to Instagram to share her health update post her admission to the hospital. Last month, on May 15 she shared her diagnosis and wrote, “Hi all. Day before on 13th May, I started having difficulty in breathing. My doc by listening to my voice said that i was going into cytokine storm & need monitoring. We were admitted to St Stephen’s hospital on 13.5.21 but my condition progressed, requiring ICU but bed wasn’t available there.”

In the same post she also shared that her husband too was suffering from COVID-19 and was on 5-liter oxygen at the same hospital she was admitted to. “Last night we got admitted to Medanta. Vinod is in the room on 5 Liter intermittent oxygen. I am on 15 Liter & breathless. It will take some time to recover. Need all good wishes, blessings & prayers of all. God bless you all always. Stay safe, stay home, stay healthy,” Dr. Dua wrote.

She shared another concerning update on May 22. On the onset, the update could sound a positive one, but on focused reading, one would know the challenging situation, Mrs. Dua was in during her last days. The update said-

“Good day. Hope you all are fine. At this stage we would all love miracles… Shraddha and saburi i.e. faith and patience is the only way to tide over. So stability and status quo are to be thankful for which is how it is right now. There are samples taken in the middle of the night. Sleep is disturbed for medicines, sponging, meals and what nots leaving one exhausted at times… Please continue with your prayers.”

Journalist Vinod Dua, Comedian Mallika confirms expiration news

On Friday, June 11, Vinod Dua shared the news of her wife’s expiration due to COVID-19 on Facebook. ‘Chinna no more’, Vinod wrote. He himself was suffering from COVID-19 and was discharged this month on June 7. The prominent journalist was recently part of the news after the Supreme Court quashed the sedition case against him over his criticism of the Modi government in the mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Dua’s daughter Chinna too took to Instagram and posted a story saying, “We had to let her go with dignity”, confirming the news. Since the past month, Mallika had taken to Instagram and had urged her followers to pray for her father & mother who were battling COVID-19. Much like her father, Mallika too was part of the news after she was given assistance in procuring essential medicines by the aviation minister.

Mrs. Dua worked as a radiologist at the Diwan Chand Aggarwal Imaging & Research Center. With a career spanning over two decades, she was a woman of multiple talents, known for her saree collection, her cooking prowess and her affectionate disposition. She was also affectionately known as ‘Chinna’, which means ‘small’, a reference to the fact that she was the youngest among 4 sisters.
