A drunk passenger in an Air India New York-Delhi flight reportedly urinated on a female passenger, prompting the DGCA to seek a report in the matter. According to reports, the shocking incident took place earlier on November 26, 2022 in the business class of a flight taking off from John F Kennedy International Airport in New York City to Delhi.

As per a Times Now report, the complainant alleged that the accused in an inebriated state approached her, exposed himself and urinated on her. The senior citizen complainant also alleged that the crew members didn’t came to her rescue, and chose not to hold her belongings when she tried to clean herself up.

For now, the internal committee constituted by the airline recommended putting the accused in a “no-fly list”. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has sought a full report about the matter to take further actions. “We are seeking a report from the Airline and shall take action against those found negligent,” an official was quoted saying.

Further, an Indian Express report quoted an official aware of the matter saying, “We are aware of the incident involving a passenger who had behaved in an unacceptable manner, affecting another. We have also been in regular contact with the aggrieved passenger and her family during the investigation and reporting process.”

The Facts of the Matter

A shocking incident has come to the fore where an unruly passenger aboard an Air India flight allegedly exposed himself to a female passenger and urinated on her. The accused man was allegedly drunk and was aboard the New York-Delhi flight that flew from John F Kennedy International Airport in New York City to Delhi earlier on November 26 last year.

Drunk Man Exposes Self, Urinates on Senior Citizen

As per a TOI report, the victim of this shocking horror was a senior citizen in her seventies, who was seated in the business class of the Air India flight.

As per the complainant, the drunk man exposed himself, urinated on her. When she raised an alert, the crew allegedly did not nab the passenger, and the passenger walked away unscathed and unaccounted for after the flight landed in India.

“Crew not proactive..”: Enraged Passenger Writes Letter

The matter came to the fore only after the aggrieved woman wrote a letter to Tata Group chairman N Chandrashekaran. The letter obtained by TOI read, “The crew was not proactive in managing a very sensitive and traumatic situation, and I had to advocate for myself throughout, waiting for long periods of time to get a response. I am… distressed that the airline made no attempt to ensure my safety or comfort during this incident”.

“My clothes, shoes and bag were completely soaked in urine. The stewardess followed me to the seat, verified that it smelled of urine, and sprayed disinfectant on my bag and shoes…,” the letter further read. As per the complainant, the man continued to stand after urinating on her, and walked away after another co-passenger asked him to back off.

Staff Did Not Help with Custom Clearance

“At the end of the flight, the staff told me they would get me a wheelchair to ensure that I clear customs as early as possible. However, the wheelchair deposited me at a waiting area, where I waited for 30 minutes, and nobody came to get me,” the distressed passenger complained in the letter, as per TOI.

Air India Issues Statement, DGCA Seeks Report

Following the incident coming to the fore, Air India issued a statement which read – “We have reported the incident to police and regulatory authorities, who will investigate further and take any appropriate action against the misbehaving party. Throughout the investigation and reporting process, we also kept in touch with the aggrieved passenger and her family.”

DGCA has also sought a report in the matter.
