Billionaire Elon Musk has said that Twitter will charge $8 subscription a month for users to get their ‘blue tick’. The move comes as Musk’s first radical change after his complete takeover of the microblogging platform. Earlier Musk shocked the world when it was reported that he fired CEO Parag Agarwal, CFO Ned Segal, and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
Earlier, Musk in a series of tweets laid the roadmap for the future of Twitter and its users. Floating the idea of Twitter charging $8 a month for the verification blue tick, Musk mentioned that the price would be adjusted by region and country. He also claimed that the plan would include “priority in replies, mentions & search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam,” and “ability to post long video & audio”.
The move comes amid Musk’s comments on bots on platform. Earlier, reports stated that Musk claimed to be “misled” by CEO Parag Agarwal regarding the state of bot accounts on the microblogging platform.
It remains unclear whether the already verified users on platform would need to pay the $8 fee to retain their blue tick. Musk also introduced the idea of a “secondary tag” for public figures and influencers.
The company is also planning to charge as much as $20 a month for its blue subscription.
The Facts of the Matter

With the takeover, Musk has now announced a few radical changes to the platform which may change the way the company is perceived by users.

Stephen King Calls Out Elon Musk
The announcements came just days after many reports stated that the company was planning to sell its Blue subscription for as much as $20 (approx. Rs 1635). Prolific novelist Stephen King remained critical of the high cost, and Musk in reply appeared to have reconsidered the price and wrote, “We need to pay the bills somehow,” adding, “Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?”.
$20 a month to keep my blue check? Fuck that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.
