In a rather strange development, a Facebook glitch left timeline of several users of platform flooded with public posts on celebrity pages. The issue was resolved after as many as three hours. In the interim, Facebook appeared the be down for a score of users across the world.
Earlier on Wednesday, numerous Facebook users across the world complained of seeing random posts to added to the pages of celebrities from other strangers. Screenshots making rounds of social media show a people’s timeline flooded with other users posting updates on the pages of celebrities. Moreover, the posts in question also put out the stream of content a user sees on a day-to-day basis, which come from their friends, or the pages they have liked.
Following the incident, a Meta spokesperson was quoted in a TechCrunch report saying, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble with their Facebook Feed. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
After the issue was resolved, Facebook spokesperson mentioned that the glitch was caused due to a configuration changed, which “caused some people to have trouble with their Facebook Feed”.
Numerous people took light of the issue, and took to Twitter to share memes regarding their timeline showing them bizarre updates.
The Facts of the Matter
With over 3 billion users, Facebook enjoys a double-edged popularity. A helpful feature on the platform will be talked about a lot, and help the platform garner more attention. On the other hand, glitches would drive people away, and the social media platform would be part of the trends, for all the wrong reasons.
The latter was observed earlier today when a strange glitch made the news feed of numerous Facebook users show irrelevant and random updates.
All About the Strange Facebook Glitch
People who logged onto the social media platform earlier on Wednesday saw their timeline flooded with posts form strangers that had been posted on the pages of celebrities. In a nutshell, when people shared a post on the celebrity’s page, it appeared on the feed of those users who liked that celebrity.
Facebook Becomes Unusable for a While
For the most part, such posts are filtered out to not be shown on the feed of other users by algorithm. However, it appeared that the system put in place broke, and Facebook practically became unusable for a few hours. Stream of regular pictures, videos, and posts, that a Facebook user has been used to seeing from their friend’s or favourite celebrity’s account, were all pushed further down by the glitched.
Netizens Add Fuel to the Fire
To add further fuel to the chaos, several users started sharing random pictures and posts on the timeline of the celebrities they have liked, hoping that other users across the world would see them and give them a reaction.
Meanwhile, Twitter again showed ‘Facebook Down’ and ‘Facebook Feed’ as a trend. Users from across the world shared screenshots of their timeline, and made jokes and memes regarding the entire ordeal.
