Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, was hospitalised earlier today at AIIMS, Delhi for routine checkup. While initial reports stated that the 63-year-old was admitted only for a “routine checkup”, conflicting reports have emerged since then with different causes of her hospitalisation. While an NDTV report claims that Sitharaman was admitted due to stomach infection, an Indian Express report stated that she was admitted due to chest congestion.

“She suffered from chest congestion and dehydration today morning and was later admitted,” an official was quoted in an Indian Express report. Meanwhile, an NDTV report stated that Sitharaman was running high fever, and had a stomach infection. However, all the reports confirmed that Sitharaman was admitted sometime around 12.30 pm on Monday.

Official sources have also been quoted claiming that Sitharaman is “fine” and the hospitalisation was done over “routine checkup”. A Reuters report quoted a source on the condition of anonymity saying, “Nothing serious. She is fine”.

Sitharaman’s hospitalisation comes at a time when the nation is one month away from the Union Budget 2023. Earlier this year in July, Sitharaman had reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, after returning from Indonesia, where she was attending the G20 meet.

Earlier on Saturday this week, she attended the 35th annual convocation of The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai.
