Reportedly, an FIR is filed against The Kapil Sharma Show for showing actors drinking in a courtroom scene. The complainant has alleged that the show has shown the court in a bad light by having actors drink on the designed set.

It should be noted that this is not the first time the show has brewed controversy. Earlier last year, a sketch didn’t go down well to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s fans. In that incident, comedian Kiku Sharda played a journalist was seen replicating the media mayhem that transpired during the tragedy.


The Kapil Sharma Show is known as the favourite escapist entertainment for millions of Indians. The show features a mix-bag of comedy sketches and interviews. The interviews is hosted by the comedian Kapil Sharma and brings the biggest names in television and Bollywood industry for a fun chit-chat.

However, the show has time and time again found itself amid controversies and allegations. From actor Mukesh Khanna labelling the show “cheap”, to stirring the people in Kayastha community, the show has received popularity for wrong reasons.

Recently, the show has been slapped with an FIR for showing actors drinking in a courtroom scene.

The Facts of the Matter

A complainant from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh has filed an FIR against popular comedy series – The Kapil Sharma Show. Reportedly, the complainant took to the authorities after the show featured a sketch where actors were seen drinking in a courtroom scene. According to the complainant, the actors showed court in a bad light and disrespected it.

What is the FIR Against TKSS All About?

The FIR has been filed by a Shivpuri based lawyer at the district court. The lawyer has called the show “sloppy”, and has alleged that in an episode, “a court was set up on the stage and the actors were seen drinking alcohol in public. This is contempt of court.”

The lawyer has stated that the episode in question had a character that was under alcohol’s influence in a set where a courtroom was designed. This, according to the lawyer, disgraces the court.

What is The Lawyer’s Demand?

Claiming that the show displayed “contempt of court”, the lawyer’s plea further stated, “I have demanded registration of FIR against the culprits under Section 356/3 in the court. Such display of sloppiness should be stopped.”

The case will be heard on October 1, 2021.

When Did the Episode Air?

Reportedly, the episode which the lawyer has made a reference to aired earlier last year on January 19, 2020. The episode had a repeat telecast earlier this year on April 24.

Other Kapil Sharma Show Controversies

The Kapil Sharma hosted comedy show steers off of topics that may create controversy or offend a community in India. However, there have been times when the show found itself amid controversy.

Earlier last year, Sharma, in his show, mentioned the name of a religious figure from the Kayastha community. Within hours, Boycott Kapil Sharma Show was trending on Twitter and the community sought an apology from the show makers and Sharma.

Soon, Sharma took to Twitter and issued an apology which read, “Dear Kayastha community, I heard about The Kapil Sharma Show episode telecast on 28 March 2020. If the mention of Shri Chitragupta Ji has hurt your sentiments, then I and my entire team apologise to you. Our intention wasn’t to hurt anyone. I pray to God that may you all be safe, happy and keep smiling. With love and respect.”

Similarly, the show stirred the massive fanbase of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput when it replicated a news debate. Kiku Sharda, the show’s regular actor, was portraying a journalist who kept saying “mujhe jug do”. This was an obvious reference to a prominent journalist. This irked Sushant Singh Rajput’s massive fanbase who demanded the show to be boycotted.
