In another Florida man report, a man reportedly got a 9-year-old kid to drove him home, and the kid almost drove as many as three miles, before being intercepted by the witness.

The incident occurred earlier on Sunday, and the man has been charged with one count of child neglect without great bodily harm. During interrogation, the man told cops that his decision was a “mistake”, but didn’t divulge further details or his motive behind the actions.

According to reports, 22-year-old Alexander Berrios gave directions to the child and asked him to drive him home. The kid almost drove 3 miles on the 7-mile trip, as per the Okaloosa County Sherrif office’s press release. The child was finally rescued from the entire ordeal after a witness spotted the car.

“A witness spotted a car entering Oak Hill Road from a neighborhood around 8 a.m. yesterday and suspected the driver was impaired due to the vehicle being all over the roadway. He cut off the car near the intersection of Highway 85 and Old Bethel Road and noticed a child was behind the wheel,” read the press release by the sheriff’s office.

The witness asked the child to move back to the car’s passenger seat, and took the car into the parking lot of nearby convenience store.

The Facts of the Matter

While reading Florida man reports, one may assume that there’s really nothing that a Florida man can’t do. However, with every passing day, more such reports come that makes one wonder – is Florida the epicenter of bizarre men out on their way to make equally bizarre news.

Take 22-year-old Alexander Berrios for instance. The man has been hitting the headlines for his shocking negligence towards a 9-year-old, after he made him sit on the driver’s seat of his car, and drop him home. Had it not been for a witness, the child could’ve put his and Florida man’s life at risk.

Sherrif’s Office Releases Press Release

The matter came to the fore after the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on its social media earlier on October 11.

“A Crestview man who asked a child to drive him back to his house Sunday is now charged with one count of child neglect without great bodily harm,” the release read. As per the release, the car was spotted by a witness who saw the car being driven in a bad fashion, and suspected that the driver was impaired.

Witness Finds Child Driving Car

When the witness intercepted the car on Highway 85, he noticed a child driving the car. The witness took matters in his own hand and asked the child to get on the car’s passenger seat. He then drove the car, took it to a convenience store’s parking lot, and alerted the cops.

Later, the 9-year-old kid told the cops that the 22-year-old man had asked him to drive him home and even pointed out directions along the seven-mile trip.

Kid Was On his Way to Home in Car

The child dropped the man, and was back to his own residence in the car when the witness found him.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Alexander Berrios was found to be the man who put the child at harm’s way and was brought to questioning. When asked about his motive, the accused man simply said that his decision was a “mistake”.

On the other hand, the child’s mother told cops that she was not even aware that her son was not around.
