A devastating plane crash in Brazil’s Amazon region has claimed the lives of 14 people. The accident occurred on Saturday when a small passenger plane attempted to land in rainy, low visibility conditions at the Barcelos airport in the state of Amazonas.

The aircraft, an EMB-110 twin-engine turboprop operated by Manaus Aerotaxi, was carrying 12 male passengers along with a pilot and co-pilot. According to officials, the pilot misjudged the runway while approaching in the rough weather and was unable to stop the plane in time. The aircraft overshot the landing strip and crashed into nearby vegetation. There were no survivors.

Victims and Destination

All victims are reported to have been Brazilian citizens traveling to the popular tourist destination of Barcelos for recreational sport fishing. Barcelos is located on the Rio Negro river and known for peacock bass fishing.

Investigation and Operator Statement

Investigations into the exact causes of the crash are being conducted by Brazil’s Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents. Adverse weather is being considered a potential contributing factor. Manaus Aerotaxi stated that the plane and crew met aviation authority requirements.
