The incident was reported from Surendranagar district and occurred in Sayla taluka area. The accused couple in the matter have been identified as Mansukh Jograjiya and his wife Prakashben.
The couple, who were farmers and parents to five children, reportedly held superstitious beliefs that led them to commit this unspeakable act of violence. Their youngest daughter, Ruhi, was found lifeless and battered in a sewage canal behind a hotel near Sayla town on April 28. An investigation by the authorities eventually led to the identification of the deceased child as the couple’s youngest daughter.
During the investigation, the police noticed inconsistencies in the statements provided by the couple, which eventually led to their confession. It was revealed that the couple blamed Ruhi for an accident they had encountered while driving to a temple in a nearby village.
What makes the entire incident more heartbreaking, is the fact that postmortem reports confirmed that the toddlers actually died of the injuries sustained while she was dumped in the canal.
