Strapped with explosive sticks, a Gujarat man gave her estranged wife a hug and blew her and himself up in the process. Reportedly, the man was unhappy with his wife who had already left him and had started living with her parents.
On Friday, the man strapped himself with gelatin sticks and reached his in-laws’ residence. As soon as his wife came out, he embraced her and pressed the detonator button. A sudden explosion was triggered and the husband and wife died on the spot. The husband has been identified as Lala Pagi and wife as Shardaben.
The incident was reported from a village in Arvalli district, Gujarat. After the incident, a case was registered against the already deceased Pagi under IPC’s sections pertaining to murder and negligence with explosive substances.
The Facts of the Matter
Shock wave of panic was felt across in a village near Aravalli district Gujarat when a man strapped himself up with gelatin explosive sticks, gave his estranged wife one last hug, and pressed the detonation button. Both the husband and his wife died on the spot due to the impact of the explosion. The husband was identified as 47-year-old Lala Pagi and his wife was identified as 43-year-old Sharda. The couple had been married for the last 20 years.
Wife Was Subjected to Physical & Mental Harassment
According to reports, Sharda had left her husband’s home and was residing at her parents’ place for the past 45 days. Reportedly, Sharda was subjected to mental and physical torture by her husband on a regular basis. Seeing no end to her abuse, she decided to move back with her parents.
A TOI report stated that Paji decided to take the grave step of taking his and his wife’s life in the brutal manner after Sharda was not agreeing to reconcile. Enraged by her consistent reluctance Lala decided to murder his wife.
Husband Gives Final Fatal Hug to Wife
On Friday this week, Lala came to Sharda’s residence near the BT Chapra area in Meghraj at about 9 PM. As soon as Lala saw Sharda, he leapt and gave her a tight hug. Little did Sharda know that her husband had tied two explosive sticks under his shirt. Taking his wife in an embrace, Lala pressed the detonation button, killing himself, and his wife instantly.
According to Bharat Basia, Deputy Superintendent of Police, “Pagi, a construction labourer, was a native of Muloj village of Modasa taluka and was married to Shardaben for the last 20 years. Since he used to beat his wife frequently, she was living at her parent’s place in BT Chhapra village since last one month.”
Case Registered, Investigation to Follow
Meanwhile, a case has already been filed against Lala Pagi under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302 (Punishment for murder), Section 286 (Negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance). Further provisions from the Explosives Act and Explosive Substances Act have also been invoked.
After the incident, the Inspector General of Police Abhay Chudasama confirmed that he will be personally overseeing the investigation. He further remarked that a probe will be conducted to ascertain why Lala chose explosive to take himself and his wife out.
