A youth in Gujarat sustained severe burn injuries after a ‘fire haircut’ went horribly wrong at a salon. The 18-year-old man sustained injuries on his neck and chest in the aftermath of the ‘fire haircut’ gone wrong. The incident was reported from Vapi town in Valsad district and occurred earlier on Wednesday. As per reports, the youth was rushed to a local hospital, and was then referred to the Valsad Civil Hospital, where he is currently taking treatment.

Chilling footage of the incident shows the barber lighting a matchstick and bringing the flame closer to the youth’s head, which is lathered with some kind of gel. The fire instantly spreads on the man’s entire head and the barber tries to give a proper style to the hair by repeatedly moving the comb. However, somehow, the fire spreads further and he immediately leaves the seat and rushes outside. One can see some flames settling on the towel that was paced on the man’s face.

Following the incident, Karamsinh Makwana, the investigating officer in the case, was quoted by media saying, “We are trying to get the statement of the victim. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Valsad. We have learnt that from there he was taken to a hospital in Surat.”

An investigation has been initiated.

The Facts of the Matter

Getting haircuts is one of the most mundane activities one can take part in. To add some more ‘zing’ and adventure to it, barbers have introduced ‘fire haircut’. Thanks to social media, fire haircut has gained popularity, as it involves the barber using fire on a customer’s hair, to set it in a particular style. While the video of such haircuts may look fun, it is not without its own perils and dangers.

Case in point, an 18-year-old youth in Vapi, Gujarat, who recently sustained severe burn injuries after the ‘fire haircut’ went awfully bad.

What Does the Video Show?

The video of the incident shows the hairdresser lighting a matchstick up, and bringing it closer to the customer’s hair, that are lathered with some sort of chemical or gel. The customer’s hair is engulfed in flames and the hairdresser uses his comb to set the hair in the relevant style.

However, this is when things take a turn for worse, as the fire somehow intensifies and spreads further. The customer throws the towel his face is covered with to one side and leaves the hairdresser’s chair in pain and agony.

Victim Suffered Injuries on Neck and Chest

According to reports, the 18-year-old victim sustained severe burn injuries on the neck and chest. He was first rushed to a nearby hospital in Vapi, from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital in Valsad. The victim is a resident of Vapi’s Bhadakmora area and had gone to take the ‘fire haircut’ from the Sulpad salon.

Investigation on Chemical Used for ‘Fire Haircut’

Following the incident, investigating officer Karamsinh Makwana was quoted by media reports saying, “We are trying to get the statement of the victim. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Valsad. We have learnt that from there he was taken to a hospital in Surat.” For now, the investigation is focused on ascertaining which chemical was applied on the customer’s head for the ‘fire haircut’.
