Memes are fascinating, to say the least. A ‘meme’ is literally defined as a unit of cultural information spread by imitation. However, on the internet, a meme is by and large a virally shared image or video, comprised of text, usually commenting on pop culture. While most memes are made on a concrete news, some memes are responsible for generating fake news itself.
The Facts of the Matter
In one such instance, two popular actors – Munmun Dutta and Raj Anadkat were caught up in a eye of the tornado of fake news. Recently, several major publications covered a fake story of the two actors dating.
None of those platforms had a source to go by. Later, it was widely speculated, that the news was made after a meme on the two actors dating went viral.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma is a show devoid of any controversy in itself. However, several reports recently emerged which claimed that she was dating her young co-star from the show. This not only led to some problematic memes on the issue, but also led to netizens forming opinions about the alleged affair.
