Recently, television actress Munmun Dutta slammed netizens on spreading rumours about dating Raj Anadkat, her co-star on popular comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma. I had better expectations from you, was what the actress stated, after rumours of her dating Raj spread like wildfire.
For the unversed, Raj Anadkat plays the role of Tipendra Gada, aka Tapu on the show. Meanwhile, Munmun plays the role of Babita, a neighbour with over a decade of age difference to Tapu aka Anadkat.
Memes are fascinating, to say the least. A ‘meme’ is literally defined as a unit of cultural information spread by imitation. However, on the internet, a meme is by and large a virally shared image or video, comprised of text, usually commenting on pop culture. While most memes are made on a concrete news, some memes are responsible for generating fake news itself.
The Facts of the Matter
In one such instance, two popular actors – Munmun Dutta and Raj Anadkat were caught up in a eye of the tornado of fake news. Recently, several major publications covered a fake story of the two actors dating.
None of those platforms had a source to go by. Later, it was widely speculated, that the news was made after a meme on the two actors dating went viral.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma is a show devoid of any controversy in itself. However, several reports recently emerged which claimed that she was dating her young co-star from the show. This not only led to some problematic memes on the issue, but also led to netizens forming opinions about the alleged affair.
“I Had Far Better Expectations From You” Munmun Slams Netizens
To clear the air, Munmun took to her social media and wrote, “To the general public, I had far better expectations from you. But the FILTH that you have showered in the comment section, even from the so called ‘LITERATE’ ones proves how regressive a society we are.”
She further reiterated how women in India are shamed on multiple levels at the cost of the humour of their fans and followers on the internet. She further added that she entertained her fans for over 13 years and it took less than 13 minutes for people to “rip” her “dignity apart”
“13 years of entertaining people & it didn’t take 13 minutes..”
“Women are constantly AGE SHAMED, SLUT SHAMED, MOM SHAMED, at the cost of your humour. Whether your humour drives someone to the edge of a mental breakdown or not, is never your concern. 13 years of entertaining people and it didn’t take 13 minutes for anyone of you to RIP MY DIGINITY APART,” she wrote.
It should be noted that as of today, the Instagram post that Dutta shared stands removed.
Raj Anadkat too Makes Public Statement
Munmun’s clarification came just hours after her co-star, Raj, who’s also caught up in the brewing controversy, broke his silence. In an attempt to squash all the rumours, Raj shared a post on Instagram. His post read, “To everyone who has been constantly writing about me, THINK of the repercussions that can happen in my life because of your ‘COOKED UP’ (false) stories and that too about my life and without my consent.”
“May God Bless Them with Good Sense”
The actor further took a sarcastic dig at those who spread such rumours and wrote, “may God bless them with good sense.” “All the creative people please channelise somewhere else it will be helpful to you”, he had added.
According to the leading Bollywood daily Spotboye, a report had cited that the cast and crew of the popular SAB TV show are aware of Dutta & Anadkat’s relationship. Further, the report also claimed that the families of both the actors are aware of the relationship.
