A hand grenade blast was made by some unidentified motorcycle-borne men near Triveni Gate of the Army Camp in Pathankot, Punjab. The grenade blast took place on 21st November 2021, Sunday night. High alert raised by cops in Pathankot and nearby areas.

Pathankot, a district in Punjab shares an international border with Pakistan which makes it a highly prone area to terrorist attacks. In the past few years, Pathankot has seen some severe terrorist attacks which include the attack of the year 2016. Again on this Sunday on 21st November 2021, at 9 p.m. some unidentified motorcyclists made a hand grenade attack near the Indian Army’s Triveni Gate near Dheerapul in Pathankot, Punjab.

Immediate Actions Taken

As soon as the attack was made, police reached the spot for investigation where they recovered parts of the grenade. However, there were no casualties or injuries reported by the local police on Monday 22nd November 2021. Surendra Lamba, the SSP of Pathankot informed that further investigation has been going on and they are verifying the CCTV footage of the scene of that time. Moreover, an alert has been raised across the entire district and for tracing the suspect’s search operations are being carried out in Pathankot and neighboring areas. The SSP also informed that so far no arrests have been made related to the grenade blast case.

Post Actions Taken

After the attack, the police have been put on high alert and further investigation is being carried on. Tough no additional information has been gathered on the case, security has been tightened in Pathankot and nearby areas. Checkpoints have been set up all across the Jammu-Pathankot Highway. All the passing vehicles and public are being thoroughly inspected.

Further, on 22nd November Monday, the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has called a meeting on Tuesday of senior officers of the Amritsar border zone and Jalandhar zone. The meeting will be held to review the law and order situation and security in the state.

Previous Attacks in Pathankot

As Pathankot is the border area of India, it has seen several terrorist attacks. In January 2016, a major terrorist attack was planned in Pathankot where heavily-armed terrorists had entered the airbase of Pathankot from the border. In the attack, India lost its two security forces officers during the initial flight and one more was injured to death. In 2015, a police station in Dinanagar was also attacked by terrorists.
