In a heart wrenching incident reported from Haryana, a woman died after being pushed from a train for resisting molestation attempt. Her 9-year-old son was later found crying in the train coach. The incident was reported from Haryana’s Tohana district and occurred earlier on Thursday. The victim in the matter is identified as 30-year-old Mandeep Kaur.
According to reports, the victim and her 9-year-old son boarded the passenger train from Rohtak’s Lakhan Majra for their travel to Tohana. As the journey progressed, majority of the passengers got off the train at different stations and most coaches remained empty.
Before Tohana station arrived, the accused tried to molest the victim. As per a Times Now report, the victim protested desperately and repeatedly and tried to save herself from the accused. When the victim continued protesting, the accused threw her off the train, causing her to succumb to her injuries on the spot.
It should be noted that the accused Sandeep also jumped off the train. He was admitted to a hospital and was later arrested.
The matter came to the fore when the victim’s husband found their 9-year-old son crying alone. The son narrated the entire incident to his father, who then filed a complaint against the accused.
The Facts of the Matter
30-year-old Mandeep Kaur was killed after being allegedly thrown out of a moving train for resisting a molestation attempt. The police have been able to nab the accused, 27-year-old Sandeep. The accused too had jumped out of the train and was injured.
However, after receiving medical attention at a government hospital, he was arrested.
Victim was Accompanied by Son
The incident occurred earlier on Thursday this week. The victim was reportedly traveling from Lakhan Majra to Tohana. Before the train reached the last station where the victim and her 9-year-old son were supposed to deboard, the accused started molesting her.
Father Finds Son Crying in Coach
When the victim resisted the accused man’s attempts at molesting her, he threw her out of the moving train and then jumped himself as well. The entire ordeal was uncovered when the victim’s husband found their 9-year-old sitting in the coach alone, crying profusely.
Body Found, Accused Arrested
After the child was comforted, he narrated the entire ordeal to his father. Following the revelation, the police and family initiated a massive search to find her. The search was doubly difficult as there were tall bushes and difficult terrain. Earlier on Friday morning, they found the body.
While the accused was arrested, the police are now investigating whether there was an apparent security lapse which led to the incident. Railway police are supposed to keep vigilance on coaches in night to avoid such incident.
Crimes Against Women in Train
According to response of an RTI query, as many as 160 rape cases were reported on railway premises and on moving trains just between 2017 and 2019. In July 2022, a female constable in Bihar was thrown off a moving train for resisting snatching attempt.
In February 2022, a 6-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a moving express train by a 25-year-old man near Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. The same month, a 21-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a pantry manager of Karnataka Sampark Kranti Train.
Such instances prove that women in the nation are nowhere safe. Be it in homes, in a cab, in a moving train, women remain vulnerable and marginalized, despite increase of share in population.
