In a horrific incident, a woman from Haryana was held captive in a Rajasthan village and was gang-raped repeatedly for a shocking period of 36 days.
Reportedly, the victim is a 45-year-old woman who was kidnapped from Nuh, Haryana, when she was out to collect fodder for cattle. It is also being reported that the victim’s family paid Rs 3 lakhs to the accused who allegedly made an objectionable video of her.
Following the incident, Nuh Superintendent of Police, Varun Singla was quoted in news reports saying, “On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered in the matter and we are verifying the facts. Action will be taken as per the law.” As per reports, the victim had gone to gather fodder earlier on July 27.
As per the complaint filed at the Punhana police station, three men in car ambushed the woman and kidnapped her at the gunpoint. She was abducted to a village in Rajasthan and was locked up in a room. She was given sedatives and gang-raped repeatedly for 36 days.
On September 1, the woman was freed after her family paid Rs 3 lakhs to the accused for not leaking her objectionable video.
The incident comes a month later after a 12-year-old woman was murdered in Haryana’s Faridabad.
The Facts of the Matter
In spite of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign catchphrase which was promised by the BJP government in states including Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, the aforementioned states report some of the most heinous crimes against women in India. In one such incident, a 45-year-old woman was abducted from Haryana and was gang-raped for 36 days.

Horrific Details Come About in Police Complaint
The incident came to the fore after a woman filed a complaint with the Punhana police station in Nuh, Haryana. As per the complaint, the victim was kidnapped by three men who ambushed her when she was out at a field and collecting fodder for the cattle.
Accused Took Victim to Rajasthan
The incident occurred earlier on July 27 when the woman was kidnapped on gunpoint by three men in a car. The accused men then took the victim to a village in Rajasthan. In the village, the accused locked the 45-year-old victim in a small room.
The woman was given sedatives and was gang-raped by the accused repeatedly, multiple times. This ordeal continued for as long as 36 days. The group of accused men also took an objectionable video of the woman.

“Action will be taken”: Nuh SP
The woman was freed earlier on September 1 after her family paid a sum of Rs 3 lakhs to the victim to not leak the video of their family member on the internet. Following the complaint being filed, Nuh SP Varun Singhla was quoted in a TOI report saying, “On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered in the matter and we are verifying the facts. Action will be taken as per the law.”

Crimes Against Women in Haryana – A Look at Numbers
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report ‘Crime in India-2021’, there were as many as 16,826 cases filed under the sections of IPC & Special Act And Local Laws when it came to crimes against women. Among those cases, as many as 6,426 cases turned out to be false. In close to 2,200 cases, the accused were acquitted while 467 accused were convicted.
The more concerning facet of the statistic includes the 27% increase in crimes against women from 2020 to 2021. While 13,000 cases were reported in 2020, 16,826 cases were reported in 2021.
