The recently gone viral video of a woman in Amritsar left immobilised due to drug overdose has prompted an investigation in the matter. According to reports the woman hails from Maqboolpura, a village barely a few kilometers from Amritsar, which has witnessed countless such incidents due to drug menace.
In the heartbreaking and concerning video gone viral, a young woman can be seen immobalized due to drugs in her system. The woman can be seen standing in a stupor on the side of the road, barely being able to move her arms or legs.
After the video of the incident went viral, an investigation was launched in the matter. Interestingly enough, Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, DCP (Investigations), claimed that the video is an old one and efforts are on to identify those who shot it and made it viral.
An unannounced search was conducted in the locality earlier on Sunday. During the operation, the police were able to arrest three persons and recovered narcotic substances from them. Three FIRs were filed in the matter and Rs. 21,960 of drug money was also recovered.

Video Allegedly Old One
Following the incident’s video going viral, the police initiated a probe regarding the matter. DCP Mukhwinder Singh Bhuller told media that the video is old one. He also mentioned that the police are trying to identify the person who captured the video.
“We have started a probe into the video, which is apparently an old one. We are trying to identify the man who had captured the video and appropriate action will be taken,” DCP Bhuller said.
3 Arrested, 12 Detained, 5 Vehicles & Rs 21k Recovered
After the video went viral, the Maqboolpura police conducted an unannounced search operation on Sunday. In the search operation, the police were able to nab three persons who had narcotic substances in their possession. Further, 12 more persons were detained due to their involvement in suspicious activities. The police were also able to recover 5 suspected stolen vehicles and Rs 21,960 drug money.
The Dark Side of Maqboolpura
The video has once again shown the dark and tainted side of Maqboolpura which still remains as the epicenter of the state’s drug epidemic. Numbers claimed that only till 2014, at least 384 drug abuse related deaths were reported in the area since 1999. Such is the menace that locals who once possessed anything of value, sold it, and are now under the grips of drug addiction.
