On Friday, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally gave a letter of appointment to Indian Star Sprinter Hima Das as Deputy Superintendent of Police. Our Indian Sprinter has been appointed to this position under the state’s ‘Integrated Sports Policy’. On which Hima reacted and said that it is like a childhood dream come true moment for her.

Hima was given an appointment letter at the Saruszai Sports Complex. The Chief Minister also gave appointment letters to the newly recruited 597 sub-inspectors in the Assam Police. He greeted the newly appointed sub-inspectors and their families on the occasion.Â

While addressing the gathering at the ceremony, Hima shared that this moment is super special as it’s a dream come true. She shared her childhood story wherein in every Durga Pujo she used to ask her mother to buy a toy gun and play pretend to work in the Police force. Her mother also wanted her to work in Assam Police and serve the State.Â

She not only shared her childhood dreams but also pledged to serve with all honesty and towards betterment.Â
In order to encourage the youth to take up sports as a career, the State Government had implemented the Integrated Sports Policy. Sonowal said,
“The state government has appointed Sprinter Hima Das as Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam Police because she has made the state proud with her achievements on the national and international scene.”

Famous by the name of ‘Dhing Express’, 20-year-old Hima is a resident of Assam. Hima is the only woman sprinter from India to win a gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships. The Assam runner completed the race in 51.46 seconds. Hima uploaded her photo on social media in a DSP uniform with pride and it just went viral.
