After 27 years of marriage, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness have announced their separation. The couple, who met on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli in 1995, married the following year.
Joint Statement Emphasizes Amicable Split
In a joint statement given exclusively to PEOPLE, the pair said “We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
The statement emphasized that their family, including their two adopted children Oscar and Ava, will remain their priority. It concluded “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”

Sources close to the couple have suggested the separation has been a long time coming. One insider told Page Six that Furness was not often present during Jackman’s Broadway rehearsals for The Music Man, implying strains in the relationship.
