Popular television and film actor Mahesh Thakur was reportedly duped of Rs 5.14 crores by his own lawyer. The ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hai’ actor, who is also the owner of a film production firm called Kreative Flight Fil-ms Pvt Ltd, was duped on the tune of over Rs 5 crores by his lawyer Mayank Goyal. The actor recently filed a complaint at the Oshiwara police station against Goyal based on which the police filed an FIR.

A police officer of Oshiwara police station was quoted in a TOI report saying, “Goyal made Thakur part with money as his fees. To gain Thakur’s confidence, Goyal through online video conferences showed fake audio and video clips of court arguments and hearings.” Mahesh Thakur had reportedly paid Rs 5.4 crores to his lawyer to get him out of a property dispute.

The alleged accused collected the money sometime between August 2021 to September 2022 and had since been not reachable on phone or in person. After the police verified Thakur’s claims, they filed an FIR based on multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 420 (cheating), and Section 406 (trust breach).

Mahesh Thakur has played roles in various films and shows including, Aashiqui 2, Bluffmaster. He was also a household name in the 90s during the run of show Tu Tu Main Main.

The Facts of the Matter

Celebrities are often thought by common people as individuals who live very different lives. However, there are some aspects in the lives of celebrities that are as similar as those of common people. Being scammed is one such aspect. From a common person, to a highly-paid celebrities, there will always be a conman for every person.

Recently, popular actor Mahesh Thakur approached the police in Mumbai and filed a complaint of being duped of a whopping Rs. 5.6 crores. Shockingly enough, Thakur has alleged that it was his own lawyer who duped him. Based on his complaint, the Oshiwara police station filed an FIR. The lawyer was identified as 34-year-old Mayank Goyal.

What the Case is All About?

The alleged scamster reportedly duped the actor of the whopping sum on the pretext of paying fee in court, providing legal consultations, and completing other formalities for a property-related dispute Thakur is involved in.

It all started back in August 2021 when Mayank Goyal and Mahesh Thakur got acquainted to each other. Goyal assured Thakur of getting out of a property-related dispute in High Court and Supreme Court.

Actor Shown Fake Audio & Video Clips

He also made Thakur believe that he had done appropriate documentation at different places for the case.

“Goyal made Thakur part with money as his fees. To gain Thakur’s confidence, Goyal through online video conferences showed fake audio and video clips of court arguments and hearings,” TOI quoted an officer of Oshiwara police station.

Money Sent from Own & Friend’s Accounts

Based on the pretext of helping him with the dispute, Goyal got money from him at different time periods between August 2021 and September 2022. Mahesh Thakur reportedly transferred the money to Goyal’s account from his own and his friends’ accounts.

The ‘Hum Saath – Saath Hai’ actor got awry when the lawyer stopped responding to his phone calls and went into hiding.

Case Filed, Investigation On

After cross-checking Thakur’s claims, the police filed an FIR against Goyal based on section 420 (cheating) and section 406 (breach of trust).

An investigation is on regarding the case. Actor Mahesh Thakur said that he will be holding a press conference soon, and till then won’t be divulging in further details.
