In a part strange-part tragic incident being reported from Hyderabad, a woman killed herself after having a fight with her tailor husband over a blouse. According to the reports, the woman was made over her husband, who works as a tailor, as he didn’t stitch a blouse to her liking. The deceased victim has been identified as 35-year-old Vijayalakshmi, wife of Srinivas and mother of 2 children. The family resided in the Amberpet area’s Golnaka Thirumala Nagar, Hyderabad. Vijayalakshmi was later found hanging in her room that was bolted by her and had to be broken into.
Background
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), India registered most number of deaths due to suicide in 2020 since 1967. In 2020, 1.53 lakh suicides were officially registered in India. To just put it under the lens of perspective, 2020 saw hundreds and thousands of people dying due to COVID-19 The pandemic led to the deaths of 1.49 lakh people. In a nutshell, India lost more persons to suicide than COVID-19.
With unemployment and inflation on rise, and stigma around conversations on stress and depression, reports of suicides are more common in India than ever. Recently, another case of suicide has shaken and stirred Hyderabad.

The Facts of the Matter
In a horrific incident, a 36-year-old wife of a tailor committed suicide after she had fight with her husband over blouse. Reportedly, 36-year-old Vijayalakshmi had a quarrel with her husband Srinivas after the latter failed to stitch a blouse to his wife’s liking.

Husband Worked as Door-to-Door Salesman and Tailor
According to a NDTV report, Srinivas earns his bread by going door-to-door selling saree and blouse fabrics. He is also a tailor who tailored outfits at her home on order. On Sunday, he had stitched a blouse for Vijayalakshmi.
Wife Asks Husband to Restitch Blouse, Husband’s Denies
However, things escalated quickly when Vijayalakshmi had an argument with her husband on the blouse. While she wanted her husband to restitch the blouse, the husband denied and this led to her take the drastic decision of killing herself.
Meanwhile, when the couple’s two children came back from school, they found the bedroom where Vijayalakshmi was, locked. After multiple knocks on the door being unanswered, the children raised an alarm.

Children Find Mother Hanging, Case of Suspicious Death Registered
Soon, the door had to be broken down and the children found their mother hanging. According to the inspector handling the case, Srinivas did not suspect her wife would take such a drastic step and had reportedly let her alone to cool down.
For now, the case is registered under suspicious death and the probe is ongoing in the matter.
