India star shooter Yashaswini Singh Deswal made the nation proud as she won the gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in the Women’s 10m air pistol category on Saturday. While the masses off the country were rooting for Indian batsmen in their game against England, the calm and composed Yashaswini shot 238.8 to win the gold in the 8-women final. Meanwhile Indian Olympian Manu Bhaker also managed 236.7 and won the silver medal.

In the ISSF World Cup held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, the bronze medal was bagged by Belarus’s Viktoria Chaika with a 215.9. Meanwhile Sri Nivetha from India also started well but lost her consistency and had to settle for the fourth place with 193.5. Earlier in the qualifications, 19-year-old celebrated shooter Manu found the second place after Deswal with a total of 577, her score sequence reading 94, 95, 97, 95, 98, and 98. Deswal in the qualifications round had a total score of 579 (99, 96, 97, 97, 98, and 92). Sri Nivetha shot a decent 574 to be placed at the fourth position in the qualification, her score card reading 97, 96, 94, 94, 97, and 97.

In the men’s department Saurabh Chaudhary won the silver medal while Abhishek Verma settled for the bronze in the 10m air pistol final at the ISSF World Cup. Currently ranked number 4th Saurabh Chaudhary managed a score of 9.8 in the last attempt for the gold medal while world 107th Ranked Javed Foroughi from Iran scored a winning 10.5. In the End, Foroughi shot a total of 243.6 and won the gold medal while the 18-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary accumulated 221.8 to win the bronze medal. Meanwhile, former world champion Shahzar Rizvi had to settle for the fifth place as he could only score 177.1.

For the qualifications, Asian Games gold Medalist Saurabh Chaudhary was on top of the table with 587 with a score sequence of 96, 98, 97, 98, 99, and 99. Abhishek Verma was second in the table with 583 score having a series of 96, 98, 99, 97, 96, while Shahzar had to settle at the fourth position with 580 (98, 97, 97, 97, 95, 96).

For the 10m Air Rifle event at the ISSF World Cup, India’s Divyansh Singh Panwar bought the bronze home. The 10m Air Rifle final had two Indians qualified: Divyansh Singh and Arjun Babuta. In the final, the world champion Divyansh Panwar fell behind American shooter Lucas Kozeniesky and won the bronze. Lucas had the overall score of 249.8. Divyansh had to surpass Sergey Ritcher who gave the Indian shooter a tough fight till the end. 18-year-old Divyansh took the bronze with a total score of 228.1 It should be noted that Divyansh had already claimed his Olympic berth after he won the silver medal in the 10m air rifle event at the Beijing World Cup, 2019.
