He was earlier appointed the Head of Cricket at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru where he was credited by young players for their fitness, technique and subsequent performances.
Background
When he took to the field as an all-rounder, Ravi Shastri played an instrumental role in India’s world cup victory in 1983. When he took to the commentator’s box after retirement, he was lauded by pundits and viewers for his articulate and exciting commentary. When he coached the Indian team, Shastri brought the same flamboyancy, and inculcated a “never give up” attitude in the team.
Thanks to this, Indian cricket team amassed some of the most memorable victories in all the formats of the game. Now, he’s all set to be replaced by veteran Indian batsman Rahul Dravid.

Similarly, former Indian player Wasim Jaffer brought out his witty side and credited Shardul Thakur for the recent development. “Till yesterday news reports were saying Rahul Dravid was going to stay at the NCA. Yet early morning news broke of him becoming India coach. So what happened around midnight? My best guess is Lord Shardul blew candles on his birthday cake wishing to be coached by Rahul bhai,” he tweeted.
