The Facts of the Matter
In a major drug bust, the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch arrested a 35-year-old Iranian national from a private villa. Reportedly, the man, along with his accomplices, had been growing cannabis in a fish tank using the hydroponic model. The man had earlier come to Bengaluru in 2010 for studies, but had since gotten involved in consumption, possession and selling of drugs.
Iranian Student Got Inspired by Lord Shiva
In an interesting example of the fact that inspiration from God can also take a person to a wrong route, the accused was inspired by Lord Shiva. It so happened that after completing his MBA in Bengaluru, he got inclined towards Lord Shiva and his stories of consuming marijuana.
Soon, the gateway drug took a hold of him and he started first using the drugs on a regular basis, and then started supplying the same.
Reportedly, the man took his curiosities to a problematic route and soon read extensively on how to grow cannabis. He read books, and did online research on the hydroponic ganja.

COVID-19 Lockdown Created Problems
The man’s imminent downfall came when earlier last year, the Bengaluru police uncovered a major drug haul and seized drugs. The accused got scared and moved to Bidadi, located on city’s outskirts. It so happened that due to COVID-19 pandemic, and the lockdowns that followed, he found it difficult to procure drugs. This is where he chose to take matters in his own hand.
Javed Went to Deep Web to Source Seeds
According to reports, Javed used the lockdown down time to grow his own cannabis for consumption and a way to make money. Soon, he procured necessary ingredients, ordered LED lights and set up a hydroponic model in his home. The man’s pursuit to creating the drug took him to the dark web from where he ordered the first seeds which were planted in the fish tank.
1 Gram of Drug Sold for Rs 3,000-4,000
Sandeep Patil, JCP (Joint Commissioner of Police), claimed that Javed created a sophisticated set-up where he harvested the seeds and took a great deal of care of the drug. It was also revealed that a single gram of the drug was sold for Rs. 3,000 – 4,000.
The Tip Off and the Arrest
Earlier, the Bengaluru Crime Branch nabbed 2 men for transporting drugs. During the interrogation, they revealed that they procured the drugs from Javed. The police followed the tip-off and took to Javed’s villa. Over there, they found an entire drug plantation and also arrested 4 other peddlers.
During the raid, the police seized 130 ganja plants, LSD strips, 12.8 kg of dry hydroponic ganja, all of which amounted to Rs. 1 crore. It should be noted that the police are on the lookout for 2 accused that are on the run. They have been identified as Prateek Jain and Jitendra Jain.
