The aftermath of the Sushant Singh Rajput death case was multi-dimensional. On one hand, it showed us all the horrific side of media that wreaked havoc on Rhea Chakraborty and others involved, defaming them beyond redemption. On the other, it also triggered a response which saw the anti-narcotics bureau publicly arresting Bollywood artists and other celebrities.

Armaan Kohli – The Bollywood Actor Gone Rogue

Tightening the noose on drug peddlers and the issue of substance abuse in general, the NCB recently arrested Bollywood actor Armaan Kohli after “small amount of cocaine” was found in his possession. Kohli is often known as Bollywood’s ‘gone-rogue’ actor, as earlier, in 2018, he was arrested for hoarding 41 bottles of scotch.

A day after his residence was raided, Armaan Kohli was arrested by the NCB. Sameer Wankhede of NCB’s Mumbai Zonal Unit was quoted saying, “A small quantity of Cocaine has been seized from his house.”

Facts of the Matter

The NCB was conducting an anti-drug operation, through which, it arrested Ajay Raju Singh in Mumbai. Singh is being reported as a drug peddler that has international link to drugs that may have its origin from South America. Singh – during the time of his arrest – was reported to be in possession of illegal narcotics.

How NCB Found Arman Kohli’s Connection

During the preliminary interrogation, the police got Kohli’s name from Singh. They then conducted a follow-up operation and successfully conducted a raid at Kohli’s residence situated in Andheri. During the raid, the NCB team found some amount of cocaine in his possession.

After his arrest, NCB official Sameer Wankhede claimed that apart from charges regarding consumption of the drugs, the actor has been booked under other serious charges.

According to reports, Kohli has been arrested under NDPS Act’s Section 21 (a), 27 (a), 28, 29, 30 & 35.

“Not targeting only ‘one-industry”: NCB

A Times of India report cited Mr. Wankhede claiming that the NCB adapts a ‘zero-tolerance-policy’ in cases that involve the NDPS Act.  (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act). Further, the official also added that it’s not only targeting ‘one industry’, but going after all violations of the act.

What is Operation Rolling Thunder?

It should be noted that the arrest comes under NCB’s Rolling Thunder Operation kicked off by Mr. Wankhede. Under the same operation, 2 NCB officials were injured when they were on the operation to arrest Nigeria based drug peddler.

The NCB, under operation Rolling Thunder, conducted 15 raids in last two days at places located in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. Apart from arresting Kohli, the NCB has also nabbed 2 Nigeria based persons, a slew of local drug peddlers and actor Gaurav Dixit.

Television actor Gaurav Dixit was on the run since April 2021, after he was issued a notice from the NCB. On August 27, Dixit was arrested by the NCB’s Mumbai zone team and was produced before the court. The court, upon hearing the case, extended his custody till August 30.
