In a story that can aptly called ‘Jab Sheru Weds Sweety’, a Gurugram couple got their pet dogs Sheru and Sweety married with Hindu rituals.

The unique and heartwarming development comes from Gurugram’s Jile Singh Colony in Palam Vihar Extension where Sheru and Sweety tied a knot in a ‘pawwsome’ marriage ceremony that had rituals like ‘haldi’, ‘mehendi’ and even ‘saathpheras’.

For the unique union of two pets, Raja and his wife Rani had as many as 100 guests invited who witnessed gala festivities which included a ladies sangeet, a baraat, and of course – the wedding.

Further, for officiating the union of the two pets, a priest has also been asked to bless the couple. Like any Hindu marriage, the people involved have distributed clothes, utensils, and other gifts among family members.

The celebrations took place the supervision of Mr Raja. Raja, a tea seller, had adopted a female dog three years ago and named it ‘Sweety’. Meanwhile, Raja’s neighbour Ram Sevak, also raised a male dog called ‘Sheru’.

When Ram Sevak brought up the idea of a ‘Sheru Weds Sweety’ situation, Raja laughed it off. Later, Raja himself thought that it must be seen through and thus, laid down a plan of having the pets married.

The Facts of the Matter

The wedding stage is set, the attendees are waiting eagerly for the groom and bride, somewhere close, some attendees are having a nice wedding meal and the festivities are in full swing. Suddenly, two wagging tails appear, and people suddenly rush towards the stage to catch a glimpse of the couple.

If this confused you, let us tell you about the recent marriage ceremony of Sheru and Sweety. Two street dogs, Sheeru and Sweety were recently married off by their owners. Further, the owners got the dogs married as per Hindu rituals, and hence, the ceremony included rituals like ‘haldi’, ‘phera’s, and ‘baraat’.

Meet ‘Raja’ and ‘Sweety’

Mr Raja, a Gurugram based tea-seller, had adopted a female street dog three years ago and called it ‘Sweety’. In an Indian Express report, he was quoted saying, “I used to go to the temple where I would feed stray animals and birds and, one day, the dog followed me home.”

Meanwhile, his neighbour Ram Sevak, had been raising a male street dog. Recently when they made, Raja simply made a ‘Iss dosti ko rishtedaari mein badal dete hai (let’s turn this friendship into kinship)’ joke.

The Wedding Preperations Begin

While Raja initially laughed off at the idea of having the two pet dogs married. He later introspected and came to conclusion that the idea was something he should see through. And so began the preparations of the wedding. He first got a wedding card made online, and shared it to the near and dear ones on WhatsApp.

The two families also held a ‘haldi ceremony’ earlier on Friday last week, and a ladies sangeet along with a ‘mehendi’ ceremony was celebrated earlier on Saturday last week.

Clothes, Utensils Gifted to Family Members

The festivities came to its grand conclusion earlier on Sunday, as a ‘baraat’ of wedding attendees got together, and attended the remaining rituals.

Like any wedding, Raja and others involved in the preparations, spared no expenses. They celebrated gifts, clothes, utensils to the family members. Further, a priest was also asked to come and bless the couple.

At least 100 people were likely to attend the wedding.
