In a horrific incident reported from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, a rape accused who was out on bail, allegedly raped the same woman for the second time, and had his friend take the video of the sexual assault. According to reports, the accused started blackmailing the victim with the video and demanded that she withdraws the 2020 case where he was alleged to have raped her.
The accused has been identified as Vivek Patel.
According to reports, the 19-year-old victim was allegedly raped by the same accused two years ago back in 2020 when she was a minor. The accused was arrested for raping the victim and was sent to jail for a year on POCSO charges. He was however released on bail a year after that in 2021.
The victim filed a complaint to the police in which she mentioned that the accused came back in her life a month back and raped her at knife point. The accused barged into her home, and committed the horrific crime while his friend took video of the entire incident.
The accused then started to threaten the victim and told her that the video will be made viral on social media if she does not withdraw the complaint she had earlier filed.
The Facts of the Matter
According to National Crimes Record Bureau (NCRB) data, India reported as many as 28,046 rape cases in 2020 – making it 77 such cases on an average day. Among all the states and U/Ts, Madhya Pradesh reported 2,339 of the total number of such cases, taking the number to 45 women getting violated every week in the state.

Accused Accompanied by Friend

The incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district.

Accused was Arrested & Jailed Under POCSO Charges
The victim in the matter, recently filed a complaint against the accused and his friend, and claimed that the incident took place a month back. According to Patan police station in-charge Asif Iqbal, the accused was arrested back in 2020 for raping the victim. The victim, who is 19 currently, was a minor back then.
Based on complaint filed, the police arrested the accused back then under POCSO charges. However, Vivek Patel was released on bail an almost a year in 2021.

Victim’s Complaint
According to the victim’s complaint, the accused and his friend forcibly barged into her home and raped her at knife point. The accused’s 34-year-old friend reportedly took video of the entire sexual assault. The accused then threatened to make the video go viral on social media if she doesn’t withdraw the previously filed complaint against him.
Following the incident, the police have filed a case of gangrape in the case and an investigation has been initiated in the incident to nab the culprits.

It should be noted that back in 2021, a similar incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh. In Hathras, a man was shot dead by an accused who allegedly molested the man’s daughter. The man was reportedly out on bail when he met the victim’s family and asked them to withdraw the case. When they didn’t agree or accept, the accused shot the man dead.
