Recently, Jet Airways CEO extended his support to the IndiGo airhostess who stood up to the entitled and rude passenger. The development comes after a video of an IndiGo cabin crew’s verbal spat with a passenger went viral on social media. While the passenger was heard complaining about food choice on the flight, the flight crew in question at one point lost her temper and was heard saying, “I’m not your servant”.

“You are pointing finger at me and yelling at me. My crew is crying because of you. Please try to understand, there is a cart and counted meals are uplifted (on the plane). We can only serve what your boarding,” the cabin crew can be heard saying.

As the heated argument continues, the man can be heard telling the airhostess to “shut up” as she retorted back with “you shut up”.

The video was met with polarizing reaction. Some netizens said that the airhostess’ attitude was hostile, and she should have de-escalated the situation, others hailed her for standing up to the passenger.

Meanwhile, Jet Airways CEO Sanjiv Kapoor extended his support towards the airhostess and in a tweet said, “As I had said earlier, crew are human too. It must have taken a lot to get her to breaking point”.

The Facts of the Matter

In the last 48 hours, one of the most talked about incidents in India is the IndiGo airhostess – passenger verbal spat which was caught on cam. The video of the heated argument showed the passenger picking up an argument with the cabin crew over food choices. The airhostess meanwhile, tried to explain the situation.

However, the passenger continued to argue in a loud voice, at which point, the air hostess snapped, and said “I’m not your servant.

Jet Airways CEO Defends IndiGo Crew

Regarding the video, Jet Airways’ CEO Sanjiv Kapoor took to Twitter, and extended her support for the crew of the airline. “As I had said earlier, crew are human too. It must have taken a lot to get her to breaking point. Over the years I have seen crew slapped and abused on board flights, called “servant” and worse. Hope she is fine despite the pressure she must be under,” he tweeted.

“I recall an incident some years ago where a new crew, just 19 years old, was slapped by a pax because his meal choice was not on board. I met her the same day, she was inconsolable and said this is not what she signed up for. She quit flying the same day,” he added in a subsequent tweet.

DCGA Launches Probe, IndiGo Issues Statement

The matter has blown up to a promotion, where the DCGA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has launched a probe. The matter pertains to an Istanbul-Delhi flight and occurred earlier on December 16. Following the investigation, the airline also issued a statement which read – “We are looking into the incident and would like to assure that customers‘ comfort has always been our top priority. We are committed to providing the best experience at all times”.

“You shut up”: IndiGo Crew Looses Cool

In the video, the crew can be seen snapping after being pushed to her limits of patience. The air hostess claims that the passenger made other cabin members “cry” because of his behvaior. “My crew is crying because of you. Please try to understand: there’s a cart, there are counted meals uplifted. We can only serve what you ordered,” she said.

The customer tries to further escalate the matter, and asks why she’s yelling, to which she shouts, “Because you’re yelling on us”. She can also be heard saying, “I am not your servant!”, and when the passenger shouted “Shut up”, she retorts back with, “You shut up”.
