In the recent Jodhpur accident, CCTV footage has emerged showing an out-of-control Audi mowing over people, injuring 8 and killing 1. The footage shows a white colour Audi speeding and suddenly running over bikers and people passing by ahead of it. The person who died in the terrible accident has been identified as Mukesh (30). Further, among the 8 persons injured, 3 were reported to have been living in the small huts near the road and 4 persons were motorists who were ahead of the car.

After the incident, the driver of the car surrendered himself in front of the police and was soon detained. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister announced ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs for the family of the deceased, Rs. 1 lakh for seriously injured and Rs. 50,000 for victims with minor injuries.

Rajasthan is a state of forts, sprawling deserts & with cities that are reservoirs of heritage. A tourist heaven, Rajasthan is one of the states which registers highest tourist footfall every year. It is also the largest state in India by area, and seventh most populous.

All these factors add up to an unfortunate statistic. Rajasthan is also one of the most accidental prone states in India. It stood fourth in the number of deaths due to accidents in 2019.

Meanwhile, according to Rajasthan’s Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD), the state has recorded over 15,000 road accidents this year between January and August. On Tuesday, another accident was reported in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur which killed 1 and injured several.

The Facts of the Matter

A terrible mishap in Jodhpur was reported which led to the death of 1 person and injuries to several others. According to reports, a speeding Audi car lost its control and mowed over motorists, small huts and passerby at the Jodhpur’s AIIMS road. The entire incident was caught on CCTV footage.

After the incident, the injured were taken to the AIIMS hospital. One person succumbed to his injury while seeking treatment at AIIMS and 8 others were reported to be undergoing treatment. The deceased was identified as Mukesh (30).

What the Footage Showed?

The horrific visuals seemed similar to a video game than real life. In the 32 second video, a swarm of motorists can be seen making their way on a road without any issues. Behind the motorists, one can see a white colored Audi speeding.

Instead of slowing down the car, the driver picked up the speed and mowed over the motorists ahead of him. Such was the impact of the hit that the first few motorists can be seen thrown in the air and landing several meters away.

The driver of the car meanwhile continued on the rampage and the car somehow steered away from the road and ran into several makeshift huts and shacks. The huts and the shacks were destroyed and the people around it was also run over by the car.

Finally, the car stops and a huge balloon of dust can be seen suspended in the air.

Driver Surrenders, Blast Heard Before Car Lost Control

Meanwhile, after the accident, the driver of the car surrendered. he was later identified as Amit Nagar and was detained. Although the cause of the car driver losing control is yet to be ascertained, some eyewitnesses have come up with their own theories. A TOI report cited witnesses claiming that the car was speeding and a blast was heard before the car lost its balance.

Rajasthan CM Meets Patients, Ex-Gratia Announced

Taking cognizance into the matter, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot took to the AIIMS Hospital to take a stock of the situation. He also announced ex-gratia for the dead and the injured. While a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs has been declared for the deceased’s family, Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 50,000 has been declared for seriously injured and minor injuries respectively.
