In a horrific incident caught on video, a Jodhpur-based doctor tied a dog to an SUV and dragged it around the city. The incident was reported from Jodhpur’s Shastri Nagar area. The accused doctor was booked after there was outrage on social media against him.

The dog allegedly suffered a fracture on its one leg and minor injuries on the other leg. Further, it also got bruises on its neck. According to reports, the accused doctor has been identified as Rajneesh Galwa, a plastic surgeon.

Horrific and blood-curdling video of the incident shows an SUV speeding with a stray dog tied with a rope. The dog can be seen trying to keep up with the speeding car and gets dragged by the vehicle. Meanwhile, the person taking the video overtakes the car and pans the camera towards the driver’s seat of the SUV.

The video of the horrific incident was shared by an NGO called Dog Home Foundation. Taking to Twitter, the NGO shared the video and a caption with it which read – “The person who did this he is a Dr. Rajneesh Gwala and dog legs have multiple fracture and this incident is of Shastri Nagar Jodhpur please spread this vidro so that @CP_Jodhpur should take action against him and cancel his licence”.

The Facts of the Matter

Recently, there’s a significant chatter regarding pet-dog attacks, stray-dog related injuries and deaths. In Kerala, reports have already emerged of people taking drastic steps and killing stray dogs, in a response to isolated incidents where dog attacks have led to injuries and even a death. Meanwhile, a similar instance of dog-abuse was reported from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur.

In the recent incident, it was not an unaware illiterate person who subjected a stray dog to the shocking abuse. It was a doctor who committed the heinous and shameful offence. The entire incident was caught on camera, triggering visuals of which, are going viral.

What Does the Video Show? (Trigger Warning – Animal Abuse)

The 39-second video, which was shot by a person following an SUV, shows a dog being tied to the car and being dragged by it. The SUV speeds up, forcing the dog to swerve from left to right. The dog runs fast to keep up with the speeding car, however, the long rope tied to its neck puts its life into danger. The man who is following the SUV, then pulls up in front of the SUV, in a desperate attempt to stop the driver.

Dog Abuser Revealed to be a Plastic Surgeon

The video of the incident was tweeted by an NGO Dog Home Foundation. In its tweet, the NGO claimed that the man who was driving the SUV was Dr. Rajneesh Galwa. As per Practo, Dr. Rajneesh Galwa is a plastic surgeon who runs his own clinic.

“The person who did this he is a Dr. Rajneesh Gwala and dog legs have multiple fracture and this incident is of Shastri Nagar Jodhpur please spread this video so that CP Jodhpur should take action against him and cancel his licence,” reads a tweet by the NGO with the video of the incident.

Accused Booked, Wanted to Remove Stray from his Area

As per an NDTV report, the accused was quoted by local media claiming that the stray dog lived near his house, and he was trying to remove the dog from his area.

Following the outrage on social media, the accused was booked under multiple sections of the IPC, including Section 428 and sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. A show-cause notice was also issued against Dr. Galwa by the SN Medical College.

Shelter Home Alleges Police Negligence

Meanwhile, a shelter home caretaker police negligence regarding the incident. The caretaker alleged that the police took the ambulance which was carrying the dog, to the police station and had it parked for an hour. “The police acted under the influence of the doctor and an FIR was lodged only after two hours,” the caretaker alleged, as quoted in a News18 report.
