The nation rejoiced on Friday Morning, when the country woke up to the news of 4 rape accused in the Hyderabad’s 26-year-old veterinarian doctor’s rape case, have been encountered. As per the reports, the police said that the culprits were taken back to the crime scene, for recreation of the brutal incident. However, they tried to run and hence police had to shoot them.
As the news spread, politician and celebrities divided in their opinions on the encounter done by Hyderabad police.
However, the most important people who were happiest with the decision were the parents & the family of the woman veterinarian doctor.
“We watched on TV that they were killed in an encounter. We are very happy. Even people are happy. I thank the Telangana government and police for the encounter. I thank everyone who stood by us,” the woman’s father said.
Woman’s cousin sister, who went out with her parent’s on the night of 27-28th November to look for Priyanka said “We are happy. We did not expect this (encounter of the accused). We thought they would be hanged through courts. We thank everyone who stood by us. With this incident, people should be scared to do such crimes (against women).”
As per the statements were given by police to various news agencies, the accused were killed in an exchange of fire between police and the culprits who tried to run from the custody.
A Senior Police official, in a conversation with PTI, said, “They (accused) snatched weapons from police and fired on police and tried to escape… police fired in retaliation in which the four accused died.”
Two of the policemen were shown to sustain injuries. The incident took place around 6.30 AM on 6th December 2019, Friday morning, where the accused were taken for the recreation of the crime scene.
The four accused lorry workers Mohammad Ali alias Mohammad Arif, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen Kumar and Chintakunta Chenna Keshavulu, were kept in remand for 7 days after they were caught on 29th November. The accused had manipulated the victim by showing a willingness to help her, as her scooter’s tyre was punctured. However, they strangled her, raped her, killed her and then burned her body with petrol.
The gang-rape and the murder had sparked nationwide outrage amongst people. They asked for rapid action against the rape accused and amendments in-laws for the protection of women against rape. However, Telangana government’s and the Police’s act have turned the tables in the case.
While, a handful of politicians, reporters, celebrities and social media influencers have opinionated the incident as a breach of law and accusing Police of taking things in hand, a lot of people have been supporting the act and demanding a similar action in other rape cases as well.
People in Hyderabad even lit up crackers, distributed sweets and showered Telangana police personnel with flower petals.
