In a new twist emerging in the Akhtar VS Ranaut case, Kangana Ranaut has sought the defamation case transfer from the Mumbai Magistrate. Further, the actress has accused Javed Akhtar of extortion and intimidation.

The news comes after Mumbai HC had dismissed Ranaut’s plea of scraping the defamation case that lyricist Javed Akhtar had filed against her. According to reports, on September 20, the Panga actress claimed that she had lost “faith in the court”, and her plea will be heard on October 1.

Actress and filmmaker Kangana Ranaut is no stranger to controversy. The actress is known for being outspoken about her opinions, and has gone on record to speak against nepotism, and drug problem in Bollywood. Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar, a veteran of the Indian cinema industry, too has been known to be a fearless champion of free-speech.

The two forces have been against each other after Akhtar accused Ranaut of saying defamatory statements about him on a public platform.

The Facts of the Matter

Thalaivii actress took to the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court on September 20. Her appearance comes after the court noted her earlier absence and had ruled that if she fails to appear, an arrest warrant will be issued against her.

“Lost Faith in Court”: Kangana Finally Appears Before Magistrate

In the court, Ranaut’s representative, Advocate Rizwan Siddiqui told the Magistrate that Ranaut had filed a new transfer application in the Magistrate Court. The actress, according to Advocate Siddiqui, is now seeking the case to be reassigned to a different court. Citing the fact that Ranaut has “lost her faith” in the court in the matter, the transfer is being sought.

 Kangana Files Counter Complaint Against Javed Akhtar

Meanwhile, the plot thickened after Ranaut filed a counter complaint against Akhtar against multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. Akhtar now faces charges under Section 383 (Extortion), Section 384 (Punishment for Extortion), Section 503 (Criminal Intimidation) and Section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

What the Counter Complaint is About?

Reportedly, Ranaut in her counter-complaint has accused Akhtar of making threat to her during an old incident that involved Hritik Roshan. According to Ranaut’s Advocate Rizwan, Kangana and her sister Rangoli were both called to Akhtar’s place. Further, Advocate Rizwan claimed that Akhtar had threatened Kangana and had asked her to write an apology letter to Hritik Roshan.

“Kangana Did Not File Complaint Earlier Because…”

An NDTV report further quoted Advocate Rizwan saying, “Kangana did not file a complaint thinking of his age… (but) because he is now aggressively moving forward in this matter, Kangana got permission from her family to file her complaint.”

On the matter, the Magistrate Court adjourned the matter till November 15, 2021.

Kangana Ranaut VS Javed Akhtar – The Story So Far

For the unversed in the Javed Akhtar – Kangana Ranaut defamation case, earlier Akhtar had taken to the court and had alleged Ranaut of defamation. According to him, Kangana’s statements aired on a television news channel amounted to a defamation case under multiple Sections of the CrPc and IPC.

Reportedly, Ranaut in her interview with the television news channel editor, had alleged that Javed Akhtar was in a “Bollywood suicide gang” who by his influence could “get away” with things.
