In a bizarre incident reported from Karnataka, a man who was upset over loan denial set bank on fire. Damages worth Rs. 12 lakhs were reported in the aftermath of the incident. The incident was reported from the Canara Bank branch located in Haveri district, Karnataka. The accused was identified as 33-year-old Wasim Hazaratsab Mulla. The accused was arrested by the police under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 477 and Section 436.

The incident was a stark reminder of a similar case reported from Gujarat where a woman was set ablaze by her neighbour for naming her puppy ‘Sonu’. The woman had reportedly given the name similar to the nickname of the neighbour’s wife.

Background

In a thriving society, trust is one of the most important factors that holds people together. We step out of our houses, trusting the fact that we won’t be outrightly attacked by a maniac, and if we are, authorities will intervene. We take to our offices and shopping malls with the trust that if a situation arises, where we are attacked without provoking a person, we shall be granted our due justice.

However, what happens when an isolated event shakes up our belief in all that can be trusted? Recently, a man in Karnataka gave people the same sense of shock when he set a bank branch on fire.

The Facts of the Matter

33-year-old Wasim wanted to get a loan from Canara Bank’s Haveri branch. He applied for the same at the branch. However, his application was rejected by the bank as he had a low CIBIL Score. For the unversed CIBIL is the credit score based on which we are all granted or denied a loan.

Man Had Low CIBIL Score, Denied Loan

While most of us would leave the bank disappointed, and look for ways to increase our score. Or look for other ways to get the loan, Wasim took a whole different approach to get his voice heard. He didn’t shout at the bank staff to create a scene. He simply set the bank branch on fire.

He broke into the bank by breaking open a window and went on to spill petrol inside the office. He then set the bank office on fire.

Pedestrians Alert Police, Accused Nabbed

Soon, pedestrians alerted the police and fire service services to take control of the situation. Soon, fire tenders rushed to the place and the fire was contained. Meanwhile, the police also nabbed Mulla who was trying to flee his village.
