A new case has been registered again P Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The case has been lodged for illegal gratification. Karti is alleged of facilitation visa for 250 Chinese nationals after receiving a “bribe” of ₹25 lakhs.

CBI Conducts Raids at Karti’s residence

Karti is an MP in the Lok Sabha, while his father, and senior Congress leader, P Chidambaram, is a Rajya Sabha MP. The CBI on Tuesday conducted simultaneous raids at the father-son’s duo premises across multiple locations. Their official residence in New Delhi as well as their house in Chennai were raided. The raid at the official residence of Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram went on for around six hours.

Karti Already Facing Allegations of Financial Irregularities

Karti Chidambaram has already been accused of financial irregularities. He has been named in the INX media case.

Tweeting on the raids, Karti said, “I have lost count, how many times has it been? Must be a record.” The Congress leader is a member of the Lok Sabha from the Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu.

“Timing of the search is interesting,” says P Chidambaram

P Chidambaram took to Twitter and wrote, “ a team searched my residence at Chennai and my official residence at Delhi. The team showed me a FIR in which I am not named as an accused.” He also said that nothing was found and seized by the team

However, Chidambaram pointed out that the timing of the raid. In his tweet, Chidambaram called the timing of the search interesting.”

Chidambaram’s Tenure in Rajya Sabha Coming to an End

Chidambaram’s tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP is coming to an end. He is hopeful of being nominated for the second time from Tamil Nadu. At present, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is in power in Tamil Nadu and has allotted one seat to its alliance partner, the Congress.
