Earlier on Sunday, KE Kumar, veteran car driver, died in a horrific car crash on a Race track during an event held in Chennai. The video of the shocking car crash showed Kumar losing control of his vehicle, swerving away from the road and crashing into the boundary with an impact that the vehicle rolled on the side of the road. According to reports, the 59-year-old racer was part of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship, second round. The event was being held at Madras International Circuit, Chennai.

Visuals from the event’s YouTube live stream and on Twitter showed the vehicle swerving off the race track and going turtle after coming in brief contact with another car during the race. Kumar’s car made contact with the front of another car which was speeding past the left side. In moments, Kumar’s car crashed into the boundary fence and further crashed into the trees. One can see the impact of collision tearing apart the different parts of the vehicle.

A red flag was immediately shown to the crashed car and Kumar was rushed for a brief medical examination at the race. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was rushed to a hospital, where he later passed away.

The day’s event was called off as a mark of respect and gesture of tribute.

The Facts of the Matter

Fans of car racing across the world continue to be haunted by the story of Le Mans, where 83 spectators were killed and 180 others were injured due to a major car crash in 1955. Since then, technology has advanced and cars are much safer than before to make sure such mishaps can be avoided.

However, there are times when a driver ends up losing control of their vehicle during a high-speed, high-stake race. In one such incident, a 59-year-old veteran racer in India, KE Kumar, died in a horrific car crash recently, after his out-of-control car crashed into the divider and then further crashed onto the trees.

The incident was reported from the Madras International Circuit, Chennai where Kumar was taking part in the second round of MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship. The race was being livestreamed on YouTube, and visuals of the car crash have since gone viral.

What Does the Video Show?

Video of the incident shows the Kumar’s briefly making contact with another car’s front side, and swerving away from the race track. The speeding, out-of-control vehicle topples, and crashes on the fencing boundary of the track and then crashing into the trees. Such is the impact of the crash, that the car is turtled over and one can see parts of the car flying in the air.

Being Rushed to Medical Examiner, Then to Hospital

According to reports, as soon as the accident took place, Kumar’s car was given the red flag. He was brought out of the car and was rushed to the medical examiner at the racing event. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he eventually passed away. The immediate aftermath of the accident had the MMSC cancelling the reminder of the day as a mark of respect and gesture of tribute for Kumar, who was also part of the racing club.

“Was an experienced racer

Calling the incident “most unfortunate”, the Chairman of the Meet Vicky Chandhok, was quoted saying, “Kumar was an experienced racer. I have known him for several decades as a friend and competitor. The MMSC and the entire racing fraternity mourn his passing away and convey heartfelt condolences to his family.”

A probe has also been initiated in the matter
