A Kerala-based couple recently married in Kochi on the day the FIFA World Cup 2022 final was being held. The couple wore Argentina and France football jerseys on their wedding day, to extend their support for their favourite team. The entire state of Kerala was swept up in the football frenzy and it was no different for R Athira and Sachin R, who decided to give a small twist to their big day, and expressed their love for the sport in their own unique way.

Sachin a huge fan of Argentina and its captain Lionel Messi, was getting married to Athira, an equally passionate fan of the France football team. The couple were set to get married on the same day when the two Footballing nations were to lock heads for the final of the coveted FIFA World Cup 2022 title.

Hours before the game, which in the end, Argentina won, the couple tied a knot with each other. Like most Indian couples, the couple married the traditional wedding attire, and were adorned with beautiful wedding jewllery.

However, unlike most couples, the couple also sported the number 10 jerseys. While Athira wore the Kylian Mbappe jersey, Sachin won the jersey of Argentina star Lionel Messi. After getting married, the couple watched the thrilling encounter.

The Facts of the Matter

Football across the world united earlier on Sunday to watch the thrilling Argentina VS France World Cup 2022 final. The match was a final to remember, with Argentina snatching the win from the jaws of France, winning the game by 4-2 in penalty shootout. As memorable a day it was, it was all the more memorable for Sachin and Athira, who got married, and celebrated their love for the sport in a unique way.

Meet Sachin and Athira

Sachin is a huge fan of Argentina and an unequivocal supporter of its star player Lionel Messi. Meanwhile, Athira is as huge a supporter of the French team and its legendary player Mbappe. The couple was set to tie the knot in Kochi on the same day as their favourite teams were to lock heads with.

The couple, much like hundreds of thousands of people in their state, stood in support of the beautiful support.

Unlike most people, who got together to watch live screenings, the couple extended their support by making a unique gesture – wearing the jerseys of their favoruite stars with their traditional wedding outfits.

Wearing Jerseys of Messi and Mbappe

While the couple did agree for the most part as to how their wedding day was supposed to go – they chose to not adjust on which team and player they were supporting. In the end, the couple ended up tying the knot wearing the traditional Indian outfits and were seen laden with jewellery. However, one key difference was – Sachin was wearing a Lionel Messi jersey and Athira wore a Mbappe jersey.

Racing Against Time, Watching Final Together as Couple

As per a BBC report, after the couple tied the knot and had their wedding ceremony, they rushed to make sure that they could watch the thrilling FIFA World Cup 2022 as a newly wedding couple. The couple raced to get done with the wedding reception, and made it just in time to Sachin’s home, which is some 128 miles away from the wedding venue location.
