As the Kerala rains unleash chaos on the state, video of a house swallowed by flood is showing the true wrath of nature. 26 people have been reported dead so far in the state due to flood related events. The video of the house being swept away in the flood like it was a weightless entity has since gone viral. The recent video comes after similar visuals of the state being flooded due to heavy rains has gone viral which includes bridges, houses, and vehicles being swept away.

Meanwhile, rescue operations for the flood victims are ongoing. Helicopters of Indian navy have been deployed to give food and nourishment packets to victims in Kootickal, Kokkayar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Kerala CM Pinarayi to get a stock of situation.

Background

The Kerala flood comes in the backdrop of prior instances of flooding, landslide, and similar calamities across the nation. Earlier this year, Himachal Pradesh became the epicenter of landslides and flooding with 187 people dying due to natural disasters since June.

Similarly, Maharashtra was on the receiving end of incessant rainfall which led to flooding and landslides, especially in the coastal regions. In Maharashtra, 251 people have been reported dead due to calamities since June.

The trend continues, and now the southernmost state of India – Kerala is suffering from floods due to heavy rains.

The Facts of the Matter

The toll on lives and livelihood continues to increase in Kerala amid heavy flash floods and torrential rainfall. So far, as many as 26 people have been reported dead, India Today reported. Further, the state is not going to experience respite from rainfall as the Arabian Sea low-pressure will lead to further rainfall. The IMD has already issued a yellow alert in 11 districts of the state.

Horrific Visuals Emerge from Kerala

As incessant rains continue to lash on the state, several horrific visuals have emerged. These visuals are enough to put a person in the shoes of a victim of the flooding and raise hair down the spine. From vehicles swept away like it had weight of a needle, to bridges being swallowed by water, the visuals show the true wrath of nature.

House Taken Away like Cardboard Box

Recently, another video of a house being taken away by the water like a cardboard box is making the round on the internet. The video, which has now gone viral, show the house taken away by the force of waters with people looking helplessly at the ordeal. The huge two-storey home was situated on the river’s edge.

The house first tilts due to the force, and suddenly its foundation is uprooted and it simply floats away in the heavy flow of the flood water. Reportedly, the house was evacuated before it was swept away.

Other Videos of Kerala Rains Devastation

Earlier, an All-India Radio video showed the enormity of the devastation caused by the rainfall. The video shows the remnants of houses and trees and authorities can be seen continuing the rescue work.

Similarly, another chilling video puts the viewer in the driver’s seat of a car that’s making its way through the ongoing flood. As the car drives with full force, one can see that the roads that it’s driving on looks almost like a river.

PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah’s Statement on Situation

On October 17, Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter and shared that he spoke to Kerala CM to take the stock of situation. “Spoke to Kerala CM Shri @vijayanpinarayi and discussed the situation in the wake of heavy rains and landslides in Kerala. Authorities are working on the ground to assist the injured and affected. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being,” he tweeted.

Home Minister Amit Shah also said that Centre was monitoring the ongoing situation and the National Disaster Relief Force teams have already been deployed for the search and rescue operations.

It should be noted that a relief package of Rs. 4 lakhs has been announced for the relatives of those who may have deceased in the calamity.
