Ex-England captain and outspoken commentator Kevin Pietersen rubbed the salt on the wounds of Indian fans by tweeting in Hindi after India’s excruciating 227 run loss at Chennai. The former England captain like many from England cricketing world took to Twitter and congratulated England after the team’s first victory over India. But Kevin also posted a tongue-in-cheek chetawani (warning) in one of his other tweets.

Kevin Pietersen tweeted in Hindi saying, “India, yaad hai maine pehele hi chetawani di thi ke itna jasn na manaye jab aapne Australia ko unke ghar pe haraya tha.” This is roughly translated to- “India, remember I gave you a warning to not celebrate so much when you had beaten Australia at their home?”

Pietersen’s chetawani is a reference to one of his Tweets he sent out when India posed a remarkable series victory over Australia on their home grounds. Pietersen, knowing his followers are comprised of hundreds of thousands of Indian fans had tweeted in Hindi after the Indian victory. He said that India should celebrate their historic win as it was achieved after so many odds. However, the real team will be coming to India in 2 weeks.

India VS England Test 1 Highlights

On the 5th day of the first Test, the England team set a mammoth 420-run target for the hosts to achieve their first victory in the 4-Test series. However, the Indian team was decimated for mere 192 runs before the third session could begin. Although Virat Kohli played a captain’s inning and scored 72 runs off 104 balls, he also proved what many cricket gurus predicted: the batting surface was not the easiest of surfaces on the fifth day.

Kohli was India’s only hope after Shubham Gill was sent back to the pavilion by Anderson at 50 runs just when Indian fans were rooting him to play the inning of his career. But after Ben Stoke bowled over the Indian skipper, the loss for the Indian team was as evitable as a morning sunrise. Gill in his 50 run inning hit seven 4s and one huge six seemed to be in his IPL form. On the other end, captain Kohli also struck 9 boundaries during his 71-run fluent inning.

But the target of 420 runs remained an uphill task for the Indian team and gradually the team crumbled. Experienced England bowler James Anderson took 3 wickets off 17 runs and Jack Leach took 4 wickets for 76 runs and helped England to achieve a comfortable win. Bess and Stokes also contributed with the ball and got success.

After team India’s defeat, Indian fans took to Twitter and expressed their disappointment in the most entertaining way: through sharing memes.

World Test Championship scenarios after India’s defeat

With the distressing defeat against the England team, the men in blue have plummeted down from the summit to the fourth position in the ICC World Test Championship table. The visitors have taken first place in the standings and have strengthened their position.

India now needs to defeat England in at least 2 matches in the 3 remaining Tests to keep the hopes of making it to the ICC World Test Championship Final alive. But if England registers one more victory against India, India will be out of the contention for the WTC final.

If England wins the series by 3-1,3-0 or 4-0 they will earn their place in the final of WTC that’s set to be played in Lord’s in June this year. Although the England team was ruthless in its opening Test, it will be challenging for them to defeat India by the margins mentioned. Kohli’s team has remained unbeaten at home in Test championships prior to this. Thus, winning more than two matches consecutively will be quite a task for the Root’s men.

Meanwhile, Aussies are also keeping an eye on the India VS England series. A lot depends on this series as Australia will go through to the WTC final if the series ends in a draw or if England wins by 1-0,2-1 or 2-0.
