The Delhi’s Vasant Vihar region was shaken and stirred by a violent crime. Delhi has been at times labelled as the crime capital of the country, especially due to the violent crimes against women. From rapes to murders to assault cases, the national capital carries the burden of some devastating tragedies that occur from time to time.
However, the recent reports of a crime are tragic and horrific as it was inflicted on a former political leader’s wife. Such reports can instill fear in the masses as they come to a grave realization that even the most guarded people can also find themselves on the receiving end of an unfortunate tragedy.
Former Union Minister, P. Rangarajan Kumaramangalam’s life turned upside down after his wife was murdered on Tuesday night. According to reports, 68-year-old woman was smothered to death by her dhobi (washerman) and two more associates.
The Crime As It Happened
According to the police, the case is that of a murder-cum-robbery. On Tuesday night, Kumaramangalam’s regular washerman came to the former’s place at 9 PM. When the househelp opened the door to the ex-Union Minister’s home, she was overpowered by the man. The man then dragged the househelp to another room and restrained her.
Meanwhile, two more accomplices of the washerman entered the home and overpowered the Ex-Union Minister’s wife, Mrs. Kitty Kumaramangalam. They then went on to smother her with a pillow and subsequently, ended her life.
The police came to know about the incident after the house help was able to untie herself and raise the alarm.
Police Arrests the Alleged Accused
Later, the Delhi police was able to arrest one of the accused – Raju (24), who was working near Mrs. Kitty’s home. DCP (South-West district) Ingit Pratap Singh was quoted by several news platforms saying-
“We received a call about the incident at around 11 pm from her domestic help Manju. She informed that at around 9 pm, Raju, who came earlier also, came to their home and she opened the door for him. But after entering, he overpowered her and dragged her to another room.”
Accused dragged Kitty and smothered her to death

Probe teams formed, Hunt for Accused Kicked-off
