On February 1st Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty will take oath as the new vice-chief of Army staff. Currently he is the Southern Army Commander and will subsequently attain the position of Lt General SK Saini on his superannuation.
Lt Gen Mohanty is an alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) Dehradun and National Defence Academy and is a Infantry Officer of 1982 batch from the Rajput Regiment, a graduate of Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and an alumnus of National Defence College, Delhi.
In his remarkable military career, Lt Gen Mohanty has had wide operational, logistics and administrative experience in different command and staff appointments. He commanded his Battalion in Jammu & Kashmir, North East, a Mountain Brigade beside the India – China border and a Mountain Division in Counter Insurgency Operations in the North East.
Further he also commanded in Eastern Theatre after Doklam incident, which was a strategically important Corps and Bareilly’s Uttar Bharat area.
Amongst these achievements there are few more accomplishments that need your attention. Lt Gen Mohanty has extensive experience of commanding a multinational Brigade in the Republic of Congo alongside being Military Advisor to the Government of Seychelles.
Not just these but he has held important staff appointments in an Armoured Brigade and Military Secretary Branch alongside being the Director-General of Operational Logistics and Strategic Movement at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) at New Delhi.
Other than the above written achievement if we talk about the kinds of degrees he holds, you will be surprised. He is an M.Phil and holds a Management Degree. He is interested in academics and has also done tremendous detailed research on China, South Asia and North East India leading to make him the expert of these regions.
