Raduano, who was serving an 18-year sentence for cocaine trafficking and facing murder charges, is a model prisoner (well, until he escaped) and used his job in the library to study the guards’ schedules. He was able to pull off this impressive feat because of understaffing and budget cuts.

The mafia boss was known for his brutal tactics, like shattering his victims’ skulls with shotgun blasts. According to reports, Raduano’s hometown had fireworks display at the same time as his escape, with the mayor denying any connection with the escape.

Budget Cuts Cited as Cause of Escape

According to reports, the prison authorities have cited the lack of personnel being the cause of Raduano’s escape.
