In Maharashtra, a 19-year-old AC mechanic in Navi Mumbai allegedly raped a 5-year-old in a building lift. The survivor of this brutal crime was brave enough to somehow get the accused get caught when he was trying to flee the scene. As per the reports, the accused called her to a lift when the survivor was playing outside. He then proceeded to rape her and took her to the 11th floor of the high rise.
Traumatized by the experience, the 5-year-old went to her home and started vomiting. When her mother asked what happened to her, she gave her an account of what she was subjected to. Soon, the mother alerted the watchman and the commotion also alerted other residents who came outside.
The watchman in the building told the survivor’s mother that he saw no one come or leave. However, the survivor’s mother and other residents started to look for the accused. At this time, the 5-year-old survivor caught a glimpse of the accused, and started shouting.
The accused was produced at the court and has been remanded in the police custody. He has been identified as Mohammed Akhtar Mathar Hussain, an AC repairman, who had come to the residential society to repair one of the ACs there.

As per NCRB report from 2021, crimes against children in India increased by a concerning 16.2% when compared to 2020. In 2021, India reported as many as 1,49,404 cases of crimes against children, against 1,28,531 such cases. Moreover, Maharashtra trailed behind Madhya Pradesh in overall crimes against children. While Madhya Pradesh reported 19,173 such cases, Maharashtra reported 17,261 cases of crimes against children.

The Facts of the Matter
In Maharashtra, a 19-year-old AC repairman allegedly raped a 5-year-old girl in a building lift. The incident was reported from Navi Mumbai, where the survivor stays.
Sometime around 7.30 pm earlier on Wednesday this week, an AC repairman called the 5-year-old female child survivor to the lift and raped her in it. He took her to the 11th floor of the building, from where he fled the scene.
Survivor Narrates Ordeal to Mom
The survivor came to her home and started vomiting and crying. When her mother asked, she narrated the entire ordeal. The mother immediately called the watchmen and asked him if he saw anyone leaving or coming, to which the watchman said that he didn’t see anyone.

How the Accused was Nabbed
Meanwhile, the commotion made by the mother and the bystanders alerted the other residents, who rushed out of their residences. The group of residents started looking for the accused, which is when the survivor saw him sneak out, and started raising an alert.
The accused did try to run away, but the locals chased him and he was brought ot the Taloja MIDC police station. After a sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to raping the girl. He was identified as 19-year-old Mohammed Akhtar Mathar Hussain.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
The accused is a AC repairman by profession, and had come to repair one in the building. He was later produced before the court, and was sent to judicial custody
“The accused was produced in court and remanded in police custody. We are trying to find whether he has committed any more offences in the past,” Taloja MIDC’s Senior Inspector Jeetendra Sonawane said, who was quoted in a Mid Day report.
