In a shocking turn of events, a man and woman set themselves on fire outside the Supreme Court in the national capital. Interestingly, the reasons of the shocking act remain unknown hours after incident. After the news broke, images and video footages of the whole incident surfaced on Twitter where a person’s silhouette can be seen burning while people rushing to doze the fire.

As shocking as it may sound, setting oneself on fire is something that’s not unheard of. Several people in the past have set themselves in the past as a sign of protest against a cause, a government or an organization.
The Facts of the Matter
The national capital was shocked by something similar where a man and a woman set themselves ablaze. While some reports claim that the duo committed self-immolation as an attempt for suicide, no confirmed reasons have emerged as to why the duo committed such an act.
On August 16, panic struck the gates of justice when a duo – a man and a woman – tried to enter the Supreme Court gates. According to an ABP report, the duo was stopped by the Supreme Court security guards as they had failed to produce the required identification to enter the apex court premises.
Video Footages Show the Horrific Action
The man and the woman then went on to pour kerosene oil on themselves and set themselves ablaze. Although the account of eye witnesses is yet to be reported, some footages show a silhouette of person ablaze in flame as people try attempting to doze the fire. The silhouette then falls on the ground and the people rush to help the affected person.

Police Swings into Action, Cause of Action Unknown
The incident happened sometime around 12.20 PM and the police soon swung into action. Reportedly, the person sat on a bench as a heavy blanket was covered around him. So far the persons have not been identified, neither is the cause of their action known yet.
Delhi DCP Issues Statement
Meanwhile, news agency Press Trust of India quoted New Delhi DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) Deepak Yadav saying, “A police team deployed at the spot rushed with blankets to save the man and the woman. The team managed to douse the fire and immediately took the victims to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment.”
As the probe of the act is underway, the preliminary investigation states that kerosene was found on the spot which was allegedly used to start the fire.

The incident occurred on July 18, 2020 at around 5.40 in the Uttar Pradesh capital’s high-security zone. The duo chose the place where political assemblies take place along with Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha proceedings
As soon as the police saw the act, they swung into action and a senior officer was quoted saying, “”They had some dispute in the Jamo area in Amethi. They had come here but didn’t approach anyone and instead tried to immolate themselves in front of Lok Bhawan.”
